Sinus congestion is a major problem for me and it can rear its ugly head any time of year, sometimes due to allergies and sometimes due to the onset of a cold or other sickness. I like having so many over the counter products to deal with the problem and one I have tried with some success is Alka- Seltzer Plus Mucus and Congestion. Alka- Seltzer Plus Mucus and Congestion is made to bust the nasal- clogging congestion that annoys so many people so frequently. It also contains ingredients meant to fight mucus by thinning it out and helping the body to eliminate it through coughing. Its main use, therefore, is to eliminate the heavy material that blocks the sinuses and can keep you up late into the night. Alka- Seltzer continues to expand its over the counter health offerings far beyond the indigestion relief that made the company famous. This medicine, Alka- Seltzer Plus Mucus and Congestion, is one of the more specific of these medications in that it is made to relieve a narrow number of symptoms. And from my experience, I find that it works okay. Its best ability is with the relief of congestion- it does help break it down so that when you blow your nose, more is eliminated. The chest congestion relief isn't too bad, either, and coughs are suppressed to a certain degree. So, Alka- Seltzer Plus Mucus and Congestion succeeds at controlling mucus, congestion, and coughing, so what is wrong with it? Well, it does work, but only to an extent and in each area (mucus, congestion, and coughing), I find there are other products that work better. These other medications may require taking multiple pills, but the superior relief is worth it. Bottom Line Viewpoint: My bottom line viewpoint with Alka- Seltzer Plus Mucus and Congestion is that it works, but it doesn't offer the level of relief to which I am accustomed. It's acceptable, but if your problems are severe, I recommend using something else. Congestion Relief This medication helps to break up congestion to a satisfactory degree. Chest Congestion Relief Chest congestion is gradually broken up with this Alka- Seltzer medicine. Relief of Aches & Pains Not designed for relief from aches and pains. Cough Suppression Cough relief is okay, but nothing exceptional.

When suffering with a cold, it can be overwhelming to look at the many remedies sold over the counter. Which ones are the best? All of them are quite expensive, so I want to make the right choice, and the last thing I want to do is make another trip to the store for another medication when I am not feeling well. Since I had cold symptoms and I felt my cold was starting to settle in my chest, I purchased Alka Seltzer Plus Mucus and Congestion, hoping to kill two birds with one stone. The product consists of oval shaped liqui gels which I found easy to swallow. They contain 10 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide and 200 mg of guaifenesin. The manufacturer says this medication will relieve chest congestion, quiet a cough, and make a cough more productive so you can bring up the mucus that is causing your chest congestion. I had mixed results with this medication. I feel it worked quite well for a cough, especially at night when I was trying to get to sleep. However, it didn't do very much to relieve my chest congestion. There are other over the counter medications that contain a lot more of the guaifenesin (responsible for thinning mucus), so I think there just isn't as much of the active ingredient that I needed. Overall, I think I would have done just as well by taking a liquid cough syrup, and it would have been much cheaper in the long run. If you don't want to mess with a liquid and want an effective cough medication, I would recommend this Alka Seltzer product. Congestion Relief This did nothing for congestion. Chest Congestion Relief It didn't do very much to relieve my chest congestion. There are other over the counter medications that contain a lot more of the guaifenesin (responsible for thinning mucus), so I think there just isn't as much of the active ingredient that I needed. Relief of Aches & Pains No pain relieving ingredients. Cough Suppression I feel it worked quite well for a cough, especially at night when I was trying to get to sleep.
