Can't live without it!

5

I started using **Alterna Caviar Anti Aging Moisture Conditioner** about 4 years ago.  My stylist recommended it and he RAVED about it.  It was a little more expensive than I was used to but it is absolutely worth it.  Since I started using it I get more and more compliments every day about my hair.  It is softer, shinier and more manageable than it's ever been before. It is more expensive than many conditioners but it is well worth the cost.  You don't need to use a lot.  One bottle will last about 6 months for me.  I have longer hair and use a nickle size squeeze.  My stylist told me to condition from ends to scalp to save on conditioner because the scalp produces oils that keep the hair near the scalp conditioned so conditioner should be used sparingly around the scalp.  It has worked for me! One drawback I have found is that it can be hard to find.  I have only seen it in salons and an occasional beauty supply store.  I have found it easier to order it online.

Caviar Conditioner--effective product, but big concerns

3

My hairdresser recommended this product to me as a great product that is paraben free. I tried it and its accompanying shampoo (though not in that order!) and loved how they worked. My hair felt softer than with other shampoos, and it felt really nicely manageable. It is very expensive, but I was able to stretch out my use of each bottle so that it would last about six months (by shampooing less frequently, as per the recommendations of my hairdresser as well as many others; 2-3 times weekly is plenty!). I also found it somewhat concerning that the shampoo contained caviar extract. I don't have sufficient information to comment on this, but considering that the depletion of sturgeon stocks is an issue of environmental concern, it seems imprudent to wash one's hair with something derived from caviar. Out of curiosity, I looked up Caviar Anti-Aging Moisture Conditioner in the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep cosmetics database. The information is a bit outdated there (e.g., it still lists methylparaben as an ingredient; the current formula is paraben free). However, to my dismay, several of the ingredients still included in the conditioner (e.g., fragrance, methylisothiazolinone, gernaiol, limonene, retinyl palmitate, cetrimonium bromide, papain, linalool, bromelain...the list goes on) are potentially a concern to one's health (e.g., allergies/immunotoxicity, cancer, developmental/reproductive toxicity, organ system toxicity, biochemical or cellular level changes, etc.). I have no desire to expose my body to such potentially damaging chemicals such as these more than I have already, when there are options out there are known to be much safer and more environmentally friendly. I don't mind having hair that isn't quite so smooth if I can have the peace of mind that I'm not poisoning my body and environment with my hair products. I recommend avoiding this product in favor of safer, environmentally conscious products until its formula improves to address these concerns.
