The formula uses the basic things that most dandruff shampoos on the market use, and it has the same blue-y color that you would expect. And it is pretty much the same exact thing as Head and Shoulders, only a different brand name, a different bottle, and twice the price. Be wary though if you are allergic to Zinc Pyrithione because this shampoo features it as a main ingredient to help control dandruff. And do not freak out if you feel a slight tingling sensation that is just the Menthol doing its thing. Effectiveness After a few washes it helped get rid of my dandruff and restore my scalp to a healthier state. Scent Because of the Menthol it smelled medicine-y to me, not super strong or really bad but it did do a good job of my cleaning out my sinuses. I would have been happier if it was a more feminine scent (But I am pretty sure this product is intended for the use of a man so even just a more perfume-y scent to mask the smell of the Menthol would have been nice).

I was told at the salon that although this is a men's shampoo, it does wonders for everyone's scalp. I constantly deal with dandruff, flakes, and the itching and even bleeding that comes with such scalp problems. I didn't want a shampoo that just cleans at the surface, leaving you with a handful of flakes just a short while after taking a shower. American Crew, while having a really strong scent (not unpleasant, but very noticeable), has left my hair clean, with less flakes and a scalp that's not so itchy. I usually have issues with film on my scalp, but not with this shampoo. Besides reduced dandruff, I noticed that my hair was tougher within a month of use, and seemed to have much more body and resistance to breakage. I will say that the product is pricey and kind of difficult to find in your everyday grocery store, so watch out for it at your next hair appointment. It's definitely worth a try if you do have constant issues with a flaky and itchy scalp.

I've tried many different shampoos to stop the flaking. Nothing worked until I started using this one and have been using it for 5 years. Unfortunately, it appears that American Crew has revised the formula and it now comes in a brown bottle and it is clear. I haven't tried it yet, afraid to stop using the one which I know works. But when I can no longer find it in the tube I will give the new one a try, assume it will be equally effective. This leaves no odor, my hair is soft and healthy-looking and NO dandruff flakes on my clothes!
