Loved it until it stopped working.

I got my Bernina Aurora 440 QE a few years ago. It sews better than any other machine I've ever owned. I've loved using it. It does take awhile to get to know the machine but once you do it's fabulous. The one drawback is the bobbin system, you can't see when you're running out of bobbin thread. Recently, I've had problems with the machine, first kind of sputtering and then finally turning on and now it's dead, not wanting too turn on, AT ALL. I now need take it in for servicing and the only place that repairs Bernina's is about an hour away from me. This is VERY inconvenient. I feel the machine is overly sensitive. I would not get another one. If they can't fix it, I will go to another brand because I feel the brand is too fussy and it's so annoying to only have a scant few places for repair. It's quite upsetting that it's only a few years old, cost a lot of money to buy and won't even turn on now when I've treated it nicely and taken great care of it.

Bernina support is nonexistent--unacceptable for such a high-dol

I own both a 440 and 830 Bernina and the expensive Designer Plus software. There is NO support for either the machines or the software. I was supposed to receive considerable training with the 830--and Bernina told me they could do nothing when the local Bernina dealer would not provide the training. Although I registered all three products, I am unable to download any update to the software because the web site reports, "You are not shown as a registered owner." This, in spite of the fact that Bernina Support reports that their records indicate I do own the items.

You get what you pay for - with this machine you get everything!

While the Bernina has a price tag that may make some people gasp, It is well worth the money if you are someone who uses your machine a lot! My best friend got the same machine 6 months before I did. I used her machine so much (I actually drove 45 minutes to her house to spend the afternoon at her machine) that I bought one myself and have been completely satisfied.      I've had the machine for almost 2 years and have had no problems with it. Any dealer I've seen offers free classes to help you get familiar with all the things your Bernina can do. The Stitch Regulator quilting foot has been a godsend! I highly recommend this product.

WOWWIE!

I get to use this terrific Bernina machine when I go to my Mom's house.  It's very easy to thread and change the feet on, which is a definite plus.  I'm a quilter that doesn't like to do the actual quilting.  When I use this machine I enjoy quilting small projects, table runners and wall hangings.  It's very smooth to sew with!

WOULD NOT BUY THE 440QE AGAIN.

THIS IS THE FIRST "EXPENSIVE AND FINANCED" SEWING MACHINE I HAVE EVER PURCHASED.  I WISH I WOULD HAVE HAD A TRY OUT PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE THE FINAL PURCHASE.  I LIKED THE IDEA OF HAVING A MACHINE THAT WOULD DO ALL THE THINGS I ENJOY DOING, QUILTING, EMBRODERY, GARMENT ENHANCEMENT,TAILORING AND ANYTHING SEWING.  THIS MACHINE'S LARGEST DRAWBACK IS NOT HAVING AUTOMATIC BOBBIN REWINDING OR ABILITY TO SEE WHEN THE BOBBIN THREAD IS RUNNING LOW.  THIS ONE AREA HAS GIVEN ME MORE HEADACHES THAN I WANT TO COUNT.  IT IS NOT AN EASY MACHINE TO LEARN TO USE.  THE DIRECTIONS ARE POORLY WRITTEN AND SO LONG THAT I HAVE JUST GIVEN UP EVEN TRYING TO LEARN HOW TO USE EVERY FEATURE IT OFFERS. THE TRADE IN VALUE IS EXTREMLY LOW.  EVEN TRYING TO UPGRADE WITH ANOTHER BERNINA MACHINE IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY.  MY INTEREST RATE FROM THE BERNINA COMPANY WAS GREAT WHEN IT I FIRST OPENED THIS ACCOUNT  DURING THE LAST YEAR IT HAS INCREASED TO 30%. I CALLED TO ASK ABOUT THIS INCREASE AND WAS TOLD I SHOULD HAVE READ THE FINE PRINT.  "TELL ME!"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  IF I HAD A WAY OUT OF THIS MESS THAT WOULD NOT KILL MY CREDIT I WOULD DO IT!!!!  SO BE CAREFUL WHEN PURCHASING BERNINA PRODUCTS USING THEIR SYSTEM.

I don't love it like my old Elna

I love the BSR and the automatic buttonhole.  I hate the tinny sound it makes and after 18 months, it just shuts itself off every minute or so - very frustrating. I'm told it needs a new board of some kind. I'm away from home for the summer but will take it in when I get home. I understand the board is guaranteed for 2 yrs so I'll just make it. Has anyone else had this problem?  I've hardly used it

I am a better sewer because of my Bernina

I love my Bernina! I sew more, I enjoy it more. The stitches are precise. If there is a problem it is either an error in the top threading, the bobbin threading or it needs some oil. I really enjoy the 100+ decorative stitches that are so easy to use. This machine is a real workhorse - I teach children to sew and this machine can take it all in stride. It is sturdy, well built, easy to maintain. I would recommend it to anyone who will use it and appreciate it. It is a waste of money if it will not be used. For the money, I don't know of a better machine. This model is particularily good because it is the bottom of this line and this line of machines has a better sewing mechanism than the smaller Berninss. My dealer is important for training and questions and they are great. Get to know your dealer before you buy.

I have hardly used my machine due to lack of knowledge, but the arm fell apart and I have had to have it all replaced. Needle will not lign up no matter how many times I tell them about it. So frustrating! You can have my machine.

My Bernina Aurora 440 is the BEST

5

I will start by saying that there is nothing like a Bernina, absolutely nothing. I have a Bernina 830 that I got almost 30 years ago and I will never part with it. I bought this new Bernina 440 a few months ago and just love it. The instruction manual is easy to read and follow and it has the same quality feel as my older Bernina. I love the hands free presser foot lever which makes it very easy to do quilting techniques. I didn't even know that I needed that feature and it turns out that I do. I can always count on the quality of the stitch and the nice tension. It looks just as nice on the bottom of the piece as the top. The computer screen is easy to read and easy to follow. I have friends with sewing machines of other brands and they complain about thread breakage and uneven stitches. I can say that I have never had that problem with this machine. I have two daughters and I plan on buying them each one of these machines because they are just the best.

Bernina Aurora machine is Perfect for many projects.

I am currently a college student and learned to use this Aurora machine as a part of one of my courses. I quickly fell in love with how easy the machine was to use, but more importantly with how great it made my products turn out.  There are rarely if ever problems with the tension adjustments, something I found a frequent annoyance and issue with preivous sewing machines, and so the stitches always look even and feel study and secure.  The extra accessories that come with the machine make the value especially worthwhile, as I have found that they are all I need for the projects I have worked on so far (mostly clothing construction projects with a few minor quilting type projects).  The only complaint I have had with themachine so far is the labels for some of the buttons have rubbed off from excessive wear, but since I know what each of them do anyway this has not been a big problem, and I figure I can always redraw them myself if I need to.
