My husband and I love this coffee maker especially when we need a quick cup and do not have time to wait for the coffee maker to run. This makes a good cup of coffee too.

Before receiving this Bodum 17-oz. French Press Coffee Maker for my birthday, I had never used one before. After several months of it sitting in the box, I finally got it out a few days ago and used it for the first time. I bought some really great coffee beans on eBay called Alvin's Jamaica Blue Mountain Alvin's Coffee. I have read that a French press is the best at making coffee, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much better the coffee is when using this machine. Brew Performance I have never used a French press before this was purchased for me. However, after using it, I felt it brewed coffee very well. There was a little bit of ground residue towards the bottom of the coffee, but it wasn't very much and I just dumped the last few ounces. Ease of Cleaning This is much easier to clean than a coffee pot and doesn't seem to stain as easily. The only difference is that I do have to wash this every time I have use it, unlike my coffee pot which I only wash once a week. Ease of Use This Bodum 17-oz. French Press Coffee Maker is very easy to use. Design This looks really great in my kitchen, and is very attractive sitting with my stainless steel items in my kitchen. Durability I can see this lasting longer than most coffee pots.

After I had a good friend of mine tell me that I had to try out coffee from a french pressed coffee maker, I was curious as I had never heard of this before and I did some research and ordered the Bodum French Press Coffee Maker. I was a little confused with how it worked at first to be honest, and did not really think that it would be anything special or taste any better, but I was very wrong. Once I got it all figured out and made my first cup, I was sold. The aroma was so strong and delicious and you could tell the difference in the first sip, it is so good. This machine works so well and you can make the coffee as weak or as strong as you would like it to be very easily. Once you get it all figured out, this coffee press becomes very simple to use and get your coffee the way that you like it. It is very easy to take it all apart and get it back together, this makes it very easy to get all clean and easier than a traditional coffee pot is.

This French press is sturdy, well designed, and works great!. Ease of Cleaning It can be a pain to get the grounds out of the mesh...they sometimes wedge themselves into it. Design Classic clean lines and design. It sets the standard. Durability I've had this press for years and it gets weekly use. No issue with chipping of the glass. It's also dishwasher safe.

I bought this coffee press as a present for my father, who is the only one who drinks coffee in the house. Since making a huge pot of coffee would be a waste, this coffee press is perfect for him. Uses it in the morning every single day and has loved it so far. This coffee press makes about two mugs of coffee. The design is very sophisticated and sleek, and also very practical. This French press coffeemaker is very easy to use even an elderly man can use it with ease. It is also very easy to clean and is dishwasher safe. Often times with French press coffee makers you'll find grainy bits of coffee grounds in your coffee, but this is not the case of this maker. The strainer works very well and leave you with a smooth grain free coffee. I would recommend this as a present to any coffee drinker whos' family doesn't drink coffee often, or as something you can have in the office.

Very simple Ease of Use Not highly technical, easy for anyone to use. Durability I have had mine for several years and this french press still works well and keeps clean.

I am not a coffee drinker, so I don't have much experience with different types of coffee makers. My father sent me some Crio Bru (cocoa beans that have been roasted and ground like coffee beans) for my birthday, but not having a coffee maker, I had no way to brew it. The Crio Bru website recommended using a french press for best brewing and flavor. They actually sell the Bodum 34oz size on their site, but I didn't need a 34oz press as I would only be brewing for myself so I bought this model. I am fairly pleased with it. It lets a few grounds escape into the drink, but I don't mind it too much. It is a little difficult to clean and sometimes the press doesn't want to go down smoothly as if it is caught up on the inside, but there is nothing to catch on. The glass seems kinda delicate, but so far I have not had any chipping or cracking. I handwash because it doesn't seem like it would hold up well in a dishwasher -- the glass just seems too delicate.

In reading around the net about brewing coffee, you will soon see that many aficionados say this is the best method for preparing your daily nectar. Although there are many french presses available these days. the Chambourd series is the one that hold the Icon status. Knowing both of these facts, I purchased the 17 ounce model to help achieve the caffeinated nirvana I was seeking. and You need to have a bit of patience when figuring this simple machine out. Having fresh coffee and the proper coarse grind size is a must when using it. That is not to say that its finicky, but you taste the full range of all flavors when brewing in this method. I would also mention that the coffee generated is slightly oily in body, that is because no oils are being trapped in a paper filter like brewing with a drip machine. Then end result is a silky and complex coffee that has many contrasting notes that are often drowned out when brewing with an auto-drip. So here are some tips; 1) Use filtered water (you want to chlorine removed) 2) Completely soak all grounds with just off boiling water (let sit for 30 secs), and then let sit for another 30 seconds. Stir gently with a plastic spoon or chopstick to break the crust (release the bloom), and then proceed the fill up the beaker with the remaining amount of water. 3) Let sit for another 3 minutes with the lid on, after which depress the plunger slowly to finish. 4) Drain the coffee into mugs of thermos immediately, do not let coffee sit in beaker as it will get stale from contact with the grounds. Its a bit more involved that brewing with the ol' autodrip, but the quality is worth the effort. Brew Performance Be prepared for a slight amount of silt towards the bottom of your cup. Simply omit the last sip if that bothers you. Ease of Cleaning You can reach all parts with total disassembly, no chance for mold/mildew to hide inside. Ease of Use No electric means its not a highly complicated machine. Just glance at the instructions and you will get the trick. Design Very attractive piece to leave on your counter. A timeless design. Durability The beakers are known to be sensitive, but the trade-off is you are avoiding brewing in a plastic container.

This coffee maker has a slightly different method of brewing coffee than the usual drip method. First, you mix coarsely ground coffee and boiling water together in the pot. Stir it up a bit and leave it to brew as long as you like, depending upon how strong you like your coffee. When it looks dark enough, press the plunger down. The plunger traps all the grounds at the bottom of the coffee maker, leaving the brewed coffee at the top to pour out. That's why it's important to use a coarse grind, so that all of the grounds can be trapped by the plunger. That's it - no filters. You're basically mixing ground coffee and hot water and then pushing the beans down out of the way. I found French press coffee to be delicious, and has a much stronger, richer taste than any brewed coffee. Because there are no filters, more of the flavor and oil remain in the coffee rather than being trapped in the filter. I had heard that there was more caffeine in the coffee this way, but I checked several sources online and found no conclusive proof. I would suggest that you use fewer grounds than you usually do because the coffee is very strong.
