Not very useful

2

These looked useful, but we never found the ability to bend utensils very useful.  My son seemed comfortable enough using his right or left hand to self feed, but having a fork or spoon that pointed to one side just confused him, so we ended up straightening these out.  The bowl of the spoon is shallow, with thick edges, and the fork is very round, with shallow tines, so picking up food was tricky, too.  We only brought these out when all the other spoons or forks were in the wash, and they usually ended up being tossed on the floor quickly.  On the plus side, they're cute, and may be easier for some children than conventional cutlery, but I see few other advantages.  Having bendable handles on functional forks and spoons would make a lot more sense, since trying to use these at all was frustrating, even when I was the one controlling them.  Would not purchase again, even if they'd been cheaper.

Great for toddlers learning to self-feed.

Boon Benders were our favorite toddler utensils when our little one was first learning to use a spoon and fork.  Obviously, they're modern & cute, but they're also practical.  Bending the utensils made a great deal of difference in her having success getting the food into her mouth.  The size of the utensils kept her from shoving more into their mouth than she could handle.  Having success at something that's new and difficult is a great encouragement both to the child and his parents!  They also clean up nicely in the dishwasher. After she had the hang of it, though, these were not our go-to utensils.  The fork is really not useful as a fork, but functions nicely as another spoon.  Our 3-year old only uses these utensils when eating a small yogurt cup - the "bowl" portion of the spoon fits nicely into the yogurt cup.  For other foods, though, she's much better off with a regular fork or spoon that holds more food and accommodates her now-larger hands.

Cute but Not as Useful as Hoped

These Boon Benders sure are adorable little utensils.  However, I would not call them the most useful toddler utensils on the market. While they do bend, which seems like a useful feature for learning toddlers, my daughter does not seem to find these any easier to use than other toddler utensils that do not bend.  The chubby portion of the spoon is easy for her to grasp, so that is nice.  However, the spoon's end is not very large, so she must eat VERY little bits at a time, which is good, I suppose, but she could handle slightly larger mouthfuls.  The fork is useless as a fork, but works just fine as another spoon. These are easy to wash - we throw them in the basket we keep for toddler items on the top rack of the dishwasher.  They are available in fun colors and match other Boon items nicely. Overall, I would say they are not worth full price, but they are on par with other toddler utensils.
