I am a first time sewer (if that is right to say). I got this last week for my birthday and I really am impressed with it. It has so many options on it for sewing or embroidery. I like the fact that it is computerized. For someone new to sewing it makes it really easy. It has a mirror image sewing capability. This is nice so I know what it will look like when I am done. It comes with an instructional DVD. For someone new to sewing this was really helpful. I am still earning all the options this machine has, but I already like it and look forward to finishing the doll quilts I am making. This machine comes with a 25-30 year warranty so I know it will last. I was surprised at how easy this is to use. Very impressed. Stitch Performance So many options, how could you say anything but very good. Ease of Use Very easy for a first timer to figure out with only the instructional DVD. Has a quick reference guide as well. Fabric Handling Moves the fabric well. I have had a few pieces get caught, but I think it is a new user issues than the machine. Versatility Lots of sewing options. I am sure I can do a lot with this machine. Look forward to using it more and more. Can take this anywhere. Not big and bulky. Design Very sleek. Easy to use. Durability Very durable. Pieces are well made.

I bought this machine as an inexpensive entry into embroidery since I have a very expensive Janome for sewing & quilting. It has been little used and has been to the Brother dealer for repairs twice. The top embroidery thread makes big loops under the stabilizer. Stitch Performance The top embroidery thread makes big loops under the stabilizer. It stitched too thickly in one place and I had to use a razor blade under the fabric/stabilizer to remove it from the machine. I have sewn a dozen small designs satisfactorily but wasted a lot of time removing wads of thread from the bobbin area. Twice it needed to be returned for servicing within 5 months of purchase..
