Bold and sassy

I was hesitant to purchase a Chemex after one of my barista friends recommended it to me because it was on the more pricey side. However I waited until I got a coupon from world market and they had a sale so I only paid half the price so that's a hack! I love this coffee maker! I have been using the same one for over 2 years now and I use it 5-7 times a week. Its durable, simple and the coffee aroma fills my Apartment. My coffee is so smooth and non acidic. Its bold but doesn't taste like tar. This is a must have for anyone who appreciated a good cup of coffee!

nice product

I have a good friend who owns a coffee roasting business. He has always sung the praises of the coffee produced using the Chemex pot or other "pour over" brewing methods. I had been hesitant to commit the $ to buy a new brewer since I had a perfectly fine drip brewer, but finally did. Now that I have been using my Chemex for a few weeks I can confidently say that it does produce the tastiest cup of coffee that I have ever made. The process of the pour over is more labor intensive than any other style that I have used, but it IS worth it. On a side note, considering the times in which we live, it is never a bad idea to slow down and create something without the aide of a machine...the end result is ultimately going to be more satisfying We got this as a lightly used product, however it still came in of the natural Chemex paper filters included. We love it! Out son works for Starbucks and he brought it to work and made coffee for his co-workers. It's such a cool pour over system and it makes super smooth coffee. Once you've used it a bunch of times you start to get a feel for how much water to coffee you need and you can ditch the scale. And we love that we can stick it in the dishwasher (just the glass part of course) think you chemex

Simple is better

My husband and I were getting bored of our 9 year old once-fancy, drip coffee maker with the grinder on top, so after researching different coffee making techniques, I decided and bought him (us) a Chemex for Christmas last year. I chose the Chemex over a french press because of the smoother taste everyone raves about. Also it looks cooler/simpler. It took us a short while to get acquainted with how to make good coffee with it, and honestly, we're still playing around with ratios... but we both definitely agree that the taste is smoother. Helpful tools: kitchen scale, Chemex filters (recommend these over cheaper standard brands), grinder (specifically burr grinder), and one of those teapots with the long skinny spout (we don't have one but we see how useful it could be). The ratio we use is typically 1:18, coffee: water (give or take because I usually forget to watch the scale as I pour). Seems like a lot of tools for a simple coffee maker, but these just make the process easier...and tastier. It takes a bit more time and effort, so we use the Chemex as our weekend coffee. I mean, it could easily be done in those crazy mornings as we're all getting out the door, but it's not efficient for us. Note: Chemex is obviously a glass product, so it could and probably will break should you drop it or hit it the wrong way on something...we've been fortunate so far. Beyond that, the quality is fantastic. Once our water is all poured over the grounds, we keep the Chemex on the stove top (gas) to heat up more. Works great, fantastic product.

Takes a bit of patience but makes an excellent cup of coffee

I will first start by saying, I love coffee. I have a variety of different coffee makers and this one might be my new favorite. Yes, it takes time to brew and requires you to be patient. The water should be a certain temperature and a specific amount, the coffee should be weighed out, you need to let the coffee "bloom" before continuing the pour, the pour should be in circular motions, etc. There is a LOT that goes into this. But if you do it right, you get an excellent cup of coffee. Heck, if you rush through it and don't do everything by the book, you get a great cup of coffee! I mostly do this on the weekends when I have time to both brew and sit and enjoy it. The coffee tastes different than from a French press, a peculator, or a machine. The glass is easy to clean and though somewhat thin, seems sturdy (just don't slam it around). I would highly recommend this to a coffee lover.

Perfect Coffee every Morning

5

I do drinks coffee in every morning, and it's become one of my habit if you know about Chemex coffeemakers, this is to be expected. The flavor I get out of the coffee is fuller and less acidic by far than other drip coffeemakers I've had in the past--I miss the old style of the cone filters, and this recaptures that perfectly (although the pour is more consistent and gentler, because it's you doing it, rather than the coffee machine overfilling the hopper). The only problems I had were a) cleaning it and b) keeping the coffee warm. I had to acquire one of Chemex's brushes and one of those heat diffusers (for some reason these just aren't sold where I am). It is, however, really easy to clean once you have the brush--there's no tubing, no hard-to-access water reservoir, etc. I suppose the only way to make this better would be for me to get one of those specialized pouring kettles, but at $45 I'll just stick with the measuring cup. It's also very eye-catching, and it instantly becomes a conversation piece for anyone who wanders into my dorm for the first time.

Great cup of coffee, but it takes time

I received the Chemex 8-Cup Classic Series Glass Coffeemaker as a gift from a co-worker and it has been a delight to use. I was immediately amazed by the simplistic design of the coffee maker. I initially used cheap filters instead of the recommended coffee cups to brew my beverage and found them to be more than adequate during the brewing process, but I had to use two at a time to prevent fast brewing. I eventually switched to the recommend filters and found them to be much better. I would load up a single cup with medium grade grounds and slowly pour a small amount of hot water in a circular motion several times until I reached my desired amount. It does take longer than normal for coffee to start dripping from the recommended filters, but I feel it makes a better more efficient cup of coffee. I was impressed with how well this glass coffee maker retained heat after I was done brewing. I have drunk several cups of coffee 30-40 minutes apart and only noticed a slight change in temperature. Cleaning this pot is relatively easy, but I wish I didn't have to remove the leather string and wooden collar to thoroughly rinse it out. I would definitely recommend the Chemex 8-Cup Classic Series Glass Coffeemaker to anyone looking to make a nice cup of coffee with time to spare.

Definite energy saver.

Overall it's something you should really look into if you're the type to complain about the energy bill like myself. Brew Performance Surprisingly it makes really good coffee. You don't really have that bitter taste if you use their filters which I recommend. It really brings out the taste of special blends and because it's glass theres no plastic taste from the water sitting in a compartment like regular coffee machines. Ease of Cleaning It's glass so all you really have to do is wipe it out. I stick mines in the dishwasher. I really like that I don't have to worry about cleaning little compartments. Ease of Use This really has to be the simplest coffee machine in the world. All you have to do is add a filter with grounds and then hot water. My friend can't work a TV remote so when I bought this for her she fell in love. Design If you're the art type you'll like this design. I think of it as functional minimalism art work. It also doesn't take up that much room. Durability It's more sturdy than it looks.

Simple and Functional Coffee Maker

5

The Chemex Glass Coffeemaker has been the easiest coffee maker I have ever seen or used. Because it doesn't have any buttons or electronics you don't have to worry about those breaking or messing up your coffee. This coffeemaker is very simple. All you need to do is use a filter and add your ground coffee to it. Then add boiling water on top and wait for it to drip through. It doesn't take long to make and you can fold up your filter and hold it if you want to have some before it is completely done. Another pro to this coffee maker is that it is made out of glass and very easy to clean. Plastic tends to look bad after a while but the glass can be easily washed out and will look like new. Durability I originally bought this maker because it was the same style my grandparents and parents used. My parents accidentally dropped theirs and had to get a new one but otherwise it would have lasted a lot longer. If you are looking for longevity this is the way to go.

Classic and Fantastic for keeping it Simple

5

I recently purchased this Chemex coffee maker because my wife started to hate our Keurig maker when we moved for the third time into a new home. She said that it didn't fit with the new kitchen (I think that was her only real reason) and was too expensive to keep purchasing pods. In the end, she had me spend an hour with her in the kitchen section of Macy's looking for a new coffee maker, just to end up buying what I thought at the time was just a piece of glass. After using it, however, I have found it to be great to have. Even though it isn't quite as simple as regular coffee maker since you need to heat up water separately, the coffee that comes from it tastes fresh, bold, and flavorful. When comparing it to other coffee makers I have had, while it isn't one that you can just set and walk away, it is ideal for those that appreciate coffee and take their time to enjoy it. As a bonus, it is easy to clean and it's fairly durable. Overall, I would recommend this to people that, as I said, take the time to make their coffee and appreciate the retention of flavor in every cup.
