It's a mouse trap. It is too good to be true! My wife and I had a nightmare experience at the SF airport last weekend. Waited for over two hours in line to find out that they are out of vehicles!!! Each of the 20 customers waited at least 20 minutes in line (while FOX Car rental waits to receive cars from returning customers). Terrible service and a mouse trap to innocent bystanders. DO NOT USE FOX CAR RENTAL... avoid at any cost. Save yourself the aggravation. We rented from HERTZ for just a little more money and ended up with a free upgrade after we told the agent about our terrible experience with FOX. The Failing Fox rental car company!
San Francisco, CA
Scammers! Do not rent from them!!
Paid in full for a car rental from Fox Rent A Car in Los Angeles airport with the address 5500 W CENTURY BLVD
(OFF AIRPORT) LOS ANGELES CA 9004, putting the pickup infos in my brother's name. Took my money, then when my brother came to pickup, they denied, saying since his name matches but not the credit card. So my brother and 80yrs. old parents stranded out their without transportation at 1:00AM. So when I contacted them from Florida, the rude gentleman told me next time I need to read the fine prints and I will not get my money back, then hung up on me while I was speaking! Never ever in my life seen any company with unprofessional employee.
Worst rental car company
This is by far the worst rental car company . I have rented many times from them when I have traveled to San Diego but this last time was the worst. After 4 days of having the car I noticed the tire warning came on so thought the tire was low so had the gas station fill it up. Well the next day I woke up with a flat tire so I called them about it first of all the customer service was very rude explained to them I had just loss my mom like 2 days before did not care what so ever about it and told me I needed to call my insurance company and have them fix the tire otherwise they were going to charge me 200 to fix it. So called my insurance company they had sent someone out to put the spare on and advised me that the tire was definitely know good had cuts on it and was a bad tire to begin with mind you the rental car place said the tire was my fault and I was responsible but yet I did not even drive the car that much to begin with. So then I had to drive on the spare for the rest of the day until I was headed back to North Carolina the next day. So when I proceeded to turn the car in I told them about the tire and they said I would have to pay for it so I asked to speak to the manager which when I told him he was very rude and did not care that I had just lost my mother and had gone threw a lot recently. His name was German Fernandez and I told him I was going to write a bad review if he did not help me his response was I don't care what you do!!! Very very unprofessional and rude!!! This as I said was the worst car rental I have dealt with including there customer service they treat people like dirt!!!!
San Diego airport
DO NOT USE FOX
I rented a car from the Orlando location. It was a 5 hour ordeal. My family waited for over an hour for a shuttle bus to pick us up from the airport to take us to their location. The bus never came so we took a cab to to their location which cost us $20.00. Upon arrival we see a crowd of people waiting outside. There was only 2 people working inside and over 20 people in line ahead of us, half of them also had to take a cab because no shuttle bus ever came to pick them up from the airport. We felt like we were in a third world country. The office was small people took turns standing in line. The office was dirty, there was no air conditioning and just one lone fan. After one hour the woman working at the desk left because her shift was over. That left a male employee by himself. It took 4 hours of us stand in line and get the car I prepaid for. If I had not have pre paid we would have left. When we finally got the car it was so dark I could not properly inspect the car which made me nervous, but luckily there was no damage on the car.
The office obviously have poor management. They take reservations so the know how many people will be coming and the office should be staffed to accommodate the need. I will never rent from them again. Saving a few dollars was not worth what we experienced.
My Worse Experience
I flew into FLL airport last Wed 02/15/17, when I got there the shuttle that goes by to pick customer never arrived. I spent there good 45 min waiting for the shuttle, mean while other rental car shuttle past by at least twice I end up paying a Taxi Cab to the rental car office. Shuttle bus sitting outside no driver, car off and person in charge tried to tell me that the usually are by the pick up station every 15 min Bologna. People flying in to FLL make sure you also get a local phone number of the place of rental because the one in the pick up area is a 800 that's is being answer in California, they will put you thru the maize and put a stupid song on it and no one will ANSWER. I hope this give you heads Up better to spend few dollars extras then get stock like I did.
Extremely Poor Service
Tried Fox Rent a Car for the first time. Price seemed great but Phoenix counter service was horrible. Wife had booked and had debit card instead of credit card as she forgot it. They wanted to do credit check. Not a problem with us but for some reason Equifax rejected even though our credit is excellent. So said I would be glad to register under my license as I had credit card. Counter agent just cancelled reservation and said we would have to start from scratch on-line. No willingness to help modify the reservation. Horrible attitude. I told my wife in front of her this is the reason they have so many one star ratings on-line. Will never attempt to rent from again and hope they go out of business soon. So much different from the next place we went to which was excellent and helpful. The counter agent there said he hears about Fox all the time on rebooking.
So bad, rent elsewhere
I will never rent with Fox Rent-a-Car ever again. The service was horrendous, the car was unsafe, and there were many deceptive fees.
At Denver International, I waited 30 minutes to be picked up from the terminal. When I got remote office there was a line of 15 or so people waiting so consequently I waited about two hours to get my car. Then, outside in the parking lot, I then waited another 15 minutes till they brought the car out. When I left, there was a line of 25 people. At no time did I get an apology. This must be business as usual.
The car, though a 2015 Volkswagon Jetta, was dangerous to drive. The brakes did not respond till they were depressed almost half way then they were hyper sensitive and jerked. The car had no torque and I had to floor the accelerator. That's not an exaggeration, I've never floored a car before and I usually drive a 2001 Honda Civic. Highway onramps were a challenge. I told the attendant when I returned the car, but it looked like it was going to be ignored and the car was going right back out.
Additionally, there were so many hidden fees. I expected the $30 gas fee to return the tank less than full, and took that option for convenience although it should cost half that with that car size. They charge an additional rental fee by the hour. The most obscene though was a $15 per incident fee on toll fees. It costed me an additional $75 on a $18 worth of toll fees as the airport is near a toll road so inevitably GPS will rout you that way.
Horrible, just terrible, so bad.
Neverave ever use this company
I usually don't leave reviews but my experience was so horrible I felt the need to warn people. Never rent a car from this place you'll regret it. I had only rented a car one time prior to this at a different rental place and after this wished I had went back to the first one. I only rented here because it was the only place that had cars available that day and was cheaper. First off when I got there they took long to get me checked out even though I was the only one there. They gave me the keys to the car and just told me to go find it didn't point out what car it is or do an inspection of the car first. As I was leaving the employee came out and told me I couldn't leave my car in the parking lot while I was gone or it would be towed and suggested I take it to the airport parking lot. So I had to pay more money to park my car over night even though they had spaces available in their lot. The car was a very old model. Was good on gas but other than that I wasn't happy with it. When I brought it back the next day they got me checked out fast and gave me a receipt showing my $150 deposit would be refunded. A week later it still hadn't gone back into my account so I called customer service and they told me it got rejected because they were having trouble with their system processing cards with the new chip in them. The woman told me she would manually do the refund and it would be back in my account later that week. 4 days later it finally went back in. Took a week and a half for my money to go back into my account for a one day rental that's ridiculous. I will never rent from here again I'd rather drive farther and pay more than deal with this company and their horrible customer service. Oh and when you try to call you just get put on hold for a really long time no one ever answers the phone.
I got great service
I have rented twice in the last two months from Fox. I have been treated beautifully both times. I wanted a particular car because I drive one at home, and they offered to wash it while I waited as it had just come in. This trip I had to swap for a van for two days of my trip, then return and get my original. They understood, and treated me like family. I'm from Indiana, supposedly a place with great hospitality, but this experience in Guadalajara was astonishing. I had expected to argue about insurance (because of other reviews) but they were straightforward and explained everything in excellent English for me. DO NOT rent from a aite like Expedia as their insurance requires a HUGE deposit here. Just rent from Fox directly. I suggest you call the Guadalajara office and speak directly with them for your reservation. I will be making a lot of trips here, and I will always rent from this company. I noticed Budget next door never had a customer the whole time I waited for my car to be washed. Thanks to the staff for making things easy.
Bait and switch, cost a LOT more than quoted
Second experience with Fox car rentals. First one, there was like 1 person working when our flight got in. Took like an hour to get our car. Bad staffing and customer service.
Second experience, my husband booked the car, not knowing it was the same company that we had a bad experice with. Was told our car in Mexico cost was $11.00, they needed up charging up $177.00 ( 16 times as much as they said) because of "mandatory insurance" we had to pay to rent their car. If they charge mandatory insurance, just post that. No one likes to be surprised at the counter. There are hundreds of reviews of this happening to people with Fox, in Mexico and inside the US. Really disreputable. I would not use again or recommend them.
