Good Solid Budget Refrigerator.

4

I purchased this as a secondary refrigerator, so I wasn't looking for something that had a ton of features. I was originally looking at the cheapest ones available, but I decided on this one because it seemed better built. This one has glass shelves instead of the wire ones, so it can hold a bit more weight. The size was perfect for where we wanted to put it, and the doors can be installed to open either way. Noise Level We don't notice much noise from it, but it's not inside the house, so that may be why.

Affordable and works well

I have had this fridge for several months now. The main selling point initially was affordability and I wanted something black so that it didn't show dirt or wear and tear as easily, because I have young kids. I moved into a place for the first time that did not have a fridge and I needed one as soon as possible, so this was the first thing I came across and I took it! It keeps things extremely cold when necessary and because of this, my groceries last much longer than expected. The crisper drawers on the bottom keep veggies/fruit really fresh. It's easy to clean, however, the drawer pieces are hard to disassemble if there is a spill and if you are anything like me, seeing leftover smears or smudges is not ideal. The shelves don't seem to be able to hold a lot of weight without bending, but if you're aware of how you place things and where, that shouldn't be a problem, either. Overall, it's a decent buy and it works for my small family. My son was able to pull the handle off and it broke, which happened pretty early on, but I think that with care and normal use, this fridge is a good buy for the price! If you are looking for something with a lot of compartments and organization, I wouldn't recommend this item.

Works fine, but awful sounds.

This fridge is in a rental and it works okay, but the high pitch noise that comes from it when it's running is awful. It's so high pitched it reminds me of what a dog must hear when someone blows a dog whistle. It's just this ear piercing constant annoying hum. Repair man says it's normal for these units. You can't hear it if there is any other noises in the house, but if you're sitting in the peace and quiet, it makes you want to go mad. I do like how you can move and adjust the shelves in the fridge to meet your needs at the time. Since it's a smaller fridge, that's a very useful feature. I wish they would make the produce drawers one large one instead of two small ones, that waste so much space that could be used. Also, maybe it's just use, but my husband uses ice to put in a small handheld cooler with water in it to take to work and the ice machine cannot make enough ice for him to refill after about 3 days of use. I also found that if you push something to the very back of the fridge, it will freeze. Apparently that's where the air comes out at. If I was buying a new fridge would I buy this one? Absolutely not.

Fridge does what it needs to do, no complaints!

We bought this fridge 4 years ago because we didn't have one. Simple as that. It has survived all 8 kids opening and closing its doors, climbing into it, and all the food that goes into such a family. While it's quit on us once, it was only due to a buildup of ice that we neglected to clean up. So... no running with it empty, and don't overload it, either. We now have two refridgerators which prevents the too full fridge situation, and it works for us. It is on the small side and the shelves are very difficult to maneuver, but overall it is a good basic fridge without any bells, whistles, or frills. I like the gallon capacity shelves, the drawers are great, and the air circulation and light are great. The freezer doesn't have any shelves, which is a downside, but you can work around that. If you are looking for something that will just do the job for you, this is a good appliance for you. It has served us well. (and that's saying a lot with this size family!)

GE did NOT "bring good things to life" with this thing!

I did not buy this refrigerator. It came with the house I purchased this passed year. Believe it or not, I never thought in a million years I could be so disgusted with a refrigerator. The thing is a piece of junk! It is NOT old...in fact, it is excellent looking. In other words, the appliance was not abused. It's just a cheaply-made nasty machine. I absolutely hate it, and if I could afford a new one, I'd be out there buying one tomorrow morning. The freezer side-shelves are designed so that you can't fit your frozen veggies on the door. The ice maker drops little tiny ice cubes, and they clump together no matter what you do! The freezer shelf is made of some cheap plastic crap, and the inside design is laughable. Now let's get to the refrigerator. Another joke! You CAN NOT fit anything at all on the top shelf. The part where the light shines hangs down so low that you can only place things to the left or right side of the shelf.....forget the middle of the shelf. It is quite useless. The crisper drawers sound like nails on a chalkboard when you open them, and they are designed to fit a bag of carrots!!! (don't try a 3-lb. bag..........no way!) The door shelf is weak and even though it is designed to fit a gallon of milk, I wouldn't do it again. Absolutely NOT! Yup....side shelf came off and milk was everywhere....joining jelly, barbeque sauce, mayo, etc. What a mess. THIS product bites!! GE...what the heck were you thinking? (or weren't you?)

needed repair after 2 years

1

2 years after purchase, it ran continually and made a knocking noise. The authorized ge repairman replaced the thermostat and told me the noise was "common" in new frigs. the problem continued, luckily a different repairman showed up, replaced the fan and fixed it and the noise too.   I also dont like that there's not a separate way to control the freezer and frig settings, plus the dial is in the front and takes up too much space and is in the way.

Fridge fulfills basic needs, and cheaply

This is a fridge in the apartment I'm living in. While I didn't buy it, I am looking to move and will be buying appliances in the near future. Not sure this is a fridge I'd buy for my own home. It is noisy! Which may just be our model, but I've heard the same loud buzzing coming from other apartment fridges. I don't think the noise is too much of a negative since I like having a little white noise in the background, especially at night the buzz helps lull me to sleep. But I know that the noise may bug some people. There is not much space in the freezer. Either you enjoy the ice maker and buy less frozen food, or you get rid of ice and stock up on the food. You have to make the choice though, you can't have ice and storage space in such a tiny freezer. We bought a chest freezer to alleviate the problem and still ahve the ice maker (we buy a lot of meat, I guess). The crisper drawers don't seem to be the most effective at prolonging the life of produce, but you get what you pay for... a basic drawer that doesn't seal off from the rest of the fridge. It is easy to clean, though.
