My first ever vacuum was a Hoover and lasted forever. I have owned other brands but never lasted quite as long. I received this one as a Christmas gift and have now owned it a year. It is markedly heavier than my previous Hoover and all others but does such a great job, that this little thing to me can be overlooked. It has many features, such as there is an attach along grip, hose clip, telescoping handle/wand, powered pet hair cleaning tool, crevice-tool, dusting brush, and furniture nozzle, floor brush and an extra reach hose. There was minor assembly after unpacking. There are plenty of features as well on this one ie., carry handle, lifetime HEPA filter, dirt cup, headlight, edge groomers, furniture guard, surface selector, handle release pedal, automatic agitator brush roll shut off, and lifetime belt. As for maintenance, the manual has plenty of pictured as well as worded directions to clean filters, etc. It works wonderfully especially with the heavy clay dirt out here, and numerous pets. All in all, I have read reviews on other models where there were problems of Hoover's but am hopeful they have worked out all previous models bugs. As for cost, I did not ask as it was a gift. It was purchased directly from Hoover as there was a packing list. So their website may have cost information.
