I purchase the Husqvarna 42-inch 540cc 20 HP Briggs & Stratton Lawn Tractor YTH2042 this past year and have been very surprised by the performance. The mower appearance is very sleek but does have significant weight for stability. The hydrostatic controls are lever actioned and not foot actioned like many of their other models, however I have gotten used to the controls over the last summer. The performance of the Briggs and Stratton motor is top notch and provides excellent power to the drive train and mower blade. This mower is not a zero turn but does an excellent job around my very large lawn of 2 acres. The most important factor for me with this mower is the stability. I have significant steep inclines in my yard and this maintains the safety I need in a riding lawn mower. I used to push my yard for many years for hours at a time. With this mower I can complete my yard in less than 30 minutes, Performance The hydrostatic controls take sometime getting experience but perform ideally when used. The engine has the extra power needed for mowing but also in towing a trailer. Handling There I times when I wish I had a zero turn mower, however I would never pay the price for just that feature. This mower is able to get into tight places and turns very easy. It is like driving a car. Durability The enginer starts on demand and the body is durable. Safety This is the most important feature I needed with this mower. The mower has excellent stability when mowing on different incline surfaces. Ease of Use Starts easy and drives very easy. The controls are easy to find. Engine Power The engine has amazing power and goes very fast.

First and foremost, the Hydrostatic transimission is not pedal controlled - it is lever controlled, which I had a hard time getting used to. This is a great mower though, as it should be considering the price point. The engine starts immediately, there was no cranking to get it started. It turns easily and has way more power than the last mower that I owned. There is definitely a learning curve to using it, but once you have used it for awhile, I actually like it more than the pedal controlled versions. I also purchased the optional mulching kit with it and I am very happy with that. It was super easy to install and it works so well! this would also be a great mower if you have a lot of things that you need to haul back and forth in your yard. I really recommend this mower if you are looking for something powerful that will last you. Best purchased if you have a large area to mow to make it worth the money.

My husband just surprised our newly married kids with this lawn mower, but he kept and used it on our lawn for a few weeks first just because he wanted to. He wanted to make sure it worked well (yeah, right). But it works beautifully! Although it's not a zero-turn mower, for the style that it is, it gets really, really close to whatever you want with easy handling. Very accurate edging. Very thorough leaf mulching. If you mow often enough while the grass isn't too high, you won't have to collect or rake your clippings--they work right into the lawn and increase its health. Performance This model is better than the two we already own! Husband wishes we had bought this for ourselves and had given the kids a used model. Ha ha! It's remarkably responsive (I used it a few times also). It doesn't speed up on the down hill (which can be scary) and it seems to have a lot of engine power to go up hills (no slow down of performance). We really like it and feel that it'll be safe for our kids to use. Handling Responsive and tight. Good turning ratio. No sliding of the tires, even on very wet grass. Durability Based on the brand's performance records, we hope this model also lasts 10-15 years. Safety Use common sense. Wear ear goggles. When you get up off the seat, if the brake isn't locked, the motor will turn off. Pretty safe. Also, if you try to go in reverse, the cutting blades will turn off. Another safety feature. Ease of Use Turn the key and it's on. Easy to raise and lower the cutting bed and adjust blade height. Forward and backward movements are also easy to use. Engine Power Feels very strong. No slow down when we're going up a hill with or without the blades going.

I purchased the Husqvarna 42-inch 540cc 20 HP Briggs & Stratton Lawn Tractor YTH2042 because we have a very large yard. My kids mow a lot of it with a push mower but it would take days to get the entire backyard mowed with that. I decided to buy a ride on lawnmower to save on sweat and frustration. I am very glad I bought this model because it has performed beautifully since the day it arrived at my house! My dad laughs because I told him I liked it because the color was pretty and it works well. I like the fact it does not look like some old farm equipment or like something that has more rust than character. It performs great and does not tear up my yard. Having this lawn mower has cut down the mowing time for my yard to half of what it used to be. Performance It works great! This lawn mower does not take much gas and makes my lawn look like I hired a landscaping company. Handling I was very nervous the first time I tried to use this but it is very easy to handle and turns as well as a car steering wheel. It does not turn on a dime though so be careful. Durability So far I have not had any problems. Safety I have not had any issues with this machine and I hope I never do. Ease of Use This is very easy to use. Engine Power I was very surprised at how fast this lawn mower can move!

I was unsure of the Husqvarna 42-Inch 540cc 20 HP Briggs & Stratton Lawn Tractor YTH2042 when my husband I started shopping for a new lawn tractor because I had never heard of Husqvarna before. My husband assured me that it was a good brand. I knew of Briggs and Stratton motors so at least I felt confident about that. The price was right so we purchased it and I have been very happy with it. I hated our old tractor so I hardly ever used it but this tractor is so easy to use and it cuts beautifully. I actually enjoy cutting the grass with this tractor. It has been very trustworthy also. We have used it a lot and we have not had one problem with it. We use it for hauling yard waste, we use it to mulch up leaves, we use it to cut a mile path where we walk our dogs, and we use it on our very large yard. It is so simple to use too. The height on the mowing deck is also very easy to adjust and we have had no problems with that either.
