We love our Gulliver!

5

We bought this crib (in white) before our first baby was born. Now he is almost 2 and it looks as good as new! He has slept in this bed since Day 2, and you can tell he knows it's HIS cozy space! Price-wise, it really can't be beat. Assembly was simple enough and the crib is very sturdy once put together. Lowering the mattress when the time came was also without hassle...and our boy still hasn't figured out how to climb out! The low profile and simple design makes makes his room look less cluttered. It also makes it very easy to lift the baby out, since you are not having to reach UP and over. Despite the fact that the crib looks smaller than bulkier, fancier designs, it takes a standard crib mattress...and therefore, standard crib sheets. This eliminates any unnecessary expenditures on custom-sized accessories. We would HIGHLY recommend this crib to any new parents. Ours is currently awaiting Baby #2!

Know better when you buy from Ikea..

I had high hopes for this crib - it looks sturdy, its a nice neutral color and I have a lot of things from Ikea. I have a table and chair used from the same type of wood and it's been sturdy enough. Don't get me wrong, the crib definitely didn't fall apart - my child is safe! My problem with this crib is that the assembly is a little questionable. The pieces go together but there are gaps here and there. This may just be my incompetence, but my friends couldn't get it either. Just beware when you put the frames together - make sure to minimize as many gaps as possible. I didn't have that many to begin with, but as time passed by I actually had to scrap the idea and buy a new crib. The spaces between the frames were getting bigger and bigger every day - I couldn't risk it anymore. My baby rocks a lot in her sleep to, I just can't risk it. The rest of the children furniture I have gotten at Ikea have help up, but just beware of this crib

Mold loves Ikea Gulliver

1

Was lowering the crib bed today, and discovered mold on the underside of the MDF bed. Huge spots. Tried to clean it with bleach but no luck. Bad design. Should not have non-cleanable surfaces anywhere. Otherwise the crib is a good budget option and is easy to assemble.

Really bad compared to old models

We recently bought a Gulliver, exchanged it for a Sundvik crib. This is our second IKEA crib and we were very disappointed. All current models share some serious disadvantages when compared to the older ones. 1. No slatted frame: All current models have a solid fiberboard bedframe with perhaps 20 tiny holes in it. There is absolutely no air-circulation possible. If you have any accident happen (which are known to happen in baby beds), make sure to dry the mattress carefully to avoid it starting to develop mold. Our first crib (a LEKSVIK) came with a nice slatted frame, which exposed the matress to air from both sides. 2. Flimsy support of the bedframe: In our LEKSVIK the bedframe was supported by eight screws through the sideboard. The construction is so stable that it would hold an adult's weight without problems. In all of the new cribs, the bedframe is supported by small 3mm diameter bolts, which extend at max. half a centimeter into the sideboards. Please mark: into, not through. They are just bolts, not screws and thus not secured in the sideboard. If one of the four gets out or breaks, the other will just slip out. 3. Closed nuts: IKEA recalled in Feb. 2011 voluntarily the SINGLAR cribs. The bolts delivered were too short to extend through the nut and there was a danger (though no incidents reported) that the bedframe might fall. In the new models, IKEA delivers closed nuts. Thus there is **no** possibility to visually check if the bolt holding the bedframe is too short, not tight enough or incorrectly installed. 4. A cosmetic detail: The LEKSVIK crib really converts into a bed, which means you can take both sides down and reduce the height of the sideboards. IKEA does not even offer such a model anymore. For the price it is still a decent crib and I like/love the design. But compared to the superior older model this crib is crxx. We bought it and we can live with it. But we are not happy with it.

Like this crib, bare bones and great for budgets

I was in the market for a new crib, as I had to give back my original one to its owner who unexpectedly got pregnant again. I was looking for cheap, but safe. Ikea furniture normally looks cheapy to me, so I generally stay away from Ikea, but this crib was such a good price, I bought it. I did get another crib mattress, because the crib was a little bit smaller than normal, but it works fine. I like the simplicity of the crib, it has a very nice, kind of "earth mother" vibe about it. I don't know if this is a problem with all cribs, as I had never had this problem in my other crib, but the first night, my daughter put her foot out of the crib, and she couldn't get it back in, as it was stuck between the wall and the crib. I just moved the crib away from being directly against the wall, but this never happened with the other crib, so I am not sure if it is a problem specific to this crib. The crib was very easy to put together, and the directions were clear. With the great price, you can't go wrong with this crib.
