Not reliable, potentially dangerous in an actual emergency

1

We got a small Kajeet phone for my daughter as an emergency phone several years ago. It is small and fits in her pocket, so I sent it with her on an outdoor sports practice last week in case of emergency. She got lost. I tried to text her -- it appeared to go through, but I never heard back from her. She tried to call me and got a message that the call could not be completed. We were both pretty upset, but I found her. I found the phone in her room today and tried it myself -- plenty of cell signal, but again no calls went through, including to customer service. Then I called customer service from my own phone, and they did something that made it work again -- but wouldn't tell me what. Scary to think that even though the phone is functional and service is fully paid for every month that they will randomly turn off your service -- and it is COMPLETELY UNPREDICTABLE. I guess we will need to find another service provider. It is a shame, because I like the service in theory. But in actuality, it is dangerous because you think you can rely on it in an emergency, but you can't.

Decent service for first phone but....

Our daughter wanted a phone but we did not want her to have a smartphone because of trust issues with the use of internet. When I found Kajeet I thought this would be the perfect service for her. I loved the idea of parental controls, such as who she could call/text and vice versa. I also liked the idea of being able to lock the phone down during school hours yet give her the ability to text immediate family in the event of an emergency. And for those times when it seemed necessary to give her a consequence, rather than taking the device away, I could lock it down from the convenience of our computer to stop calls/texts to and from her friends. With that being said, I like the parental options Kajeet offers. The company no longer sells phones so the only way to get service on a phone is by using a Sprint device. That part I don't like. When we eventally do upgrade the phone it will have to be Sprint - it would be nice for Kajeet to allow any device to be used. Also, as with any technology there's going to be issues. On a few occasions when I've locked her phone down, it has not worked and she was still able to text & call her friends. And another thing I'd like to see Kajeet add is the ability for a customer to change their user name. We can change the password but so can my daughter. She figured out my user name and was able to change the password simply by going to the Kajeet website, putting in the user name and requesting a password change. All she had to do was submit the user name and her phone number and a temporary password shows on the account. I would really like to see Kajeet add the option of being able to change the user name as well or at least email a temporary password rather than have one pop up on the screen. Aside from those issues we've been happy with the service itself.

Really?

This phone service provider is okay. The service cost is cheap, but so is the service itself. It's difficult to send a message without getting an "Error 923-0" message. I was also spammed with "care@kajeet" messages so often that I had to put them on my block list due to the fact I got literally hundreds of messages from them per day. The service is okay for Little Bobby's first phone, but for someone who just wants to socialize and not have to resend a message 3 times just for it to go through, this service provider is not good.

Doesn't work as advertised and violates privacy

The Kajeet service does not provide the protection for your children that it advertises and will not protect your personal information. Stay away from this company. Features The Kajeet service does not provide the protection for your children that it advertises and will not protect your personal information. The phone service is unreliable, the contact manager does not work, the wallets do not work properly either. Basically, all the reasons you would get this for your kid do not work as advertised. Customer Service I've had a plan with Kajeet for several months. My 7 year has their phone for emergency calls to parents and grandparents only. However, he has been getting phone calls from all over the country. I've set up the contact manager multiple times and verified that only those on the list can contact him via calls or text yet the blocked calls continue to arrive. The phone service has cut out multiple times even though both the child's and parents wallet were full. The last time I called to speak to customer service they asked my security question and after I gave them the correct answer they then asked me to give them my private password. I refused to disclose my password and asked the operator if he could see it on his end. He said, "no sir I cannot see your password, but in order to continue you need to tell me your password." I refused and asked for a supervisor. Augustine the operator then tried to tell me that he would not give me a supervisor without first getting my private password. I have never been asked to disclose my private password before. There is a very good reason why your passwords are encrypted and unrecoverable. No legitimate company would expect you to hand over your password over the phone. If I had forgot my password the best they could do is send me a new one because your password is private, encrypted, and not visible to others.

Good for kids, iffy service.

Kajeet is a great alternative for people who don't use there phones often, for older people who don't need a fancy phone or for children whose parents want to be in control of whatthere children are using there phones for. A parent can choose when the phones are used and who can talk to them. They do offer text messaging as well. The phones and plans wont meet my needs but they are Good if your looking to save money or are willing to tarde fancier phones for a cheaper plan. Call Quality Call quality wasn't horrible, but it also was not anything to get too excited about. It was a little hard to hear what the other person was saying. Coverage Coverage was spottier than other carriers I have used. The person I know who has Kajeetwas with me all day and she never once had full coverage. Plan Options The plan options are pretty Good. They are Basic, but Good for people who are not big cell phone users or for children. You can also monitor what and when the phone is used for if purchased for a child or teen. Features The phones that Kajeet has to offer are not very feature filled. However the plans have a lot of neat features. Customer Service Kajeet has awesome customer service.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS COMPANY!!

2

The ONLY good thing I have to say about this product is that customer service answers their calls quickly. This company is a bunch of foreigner scam artists. You will never get a normal English speaking American citizen when you call customer support. The main issue ive had with them is that they auto-refill when you don't want them to. I had to call 4 times within a year about the issue. The last call took 40 minutes and me yelling and getting a supervisor which he also just argued and said my daughter used her phone, even tho I pulled it up on her account and proved it was not in use. I had to threaten to sue just to get part of my money back that they stole from my bank account once again. I checked over and over to make sure auto refill was not checked off, it wasn't, that's not a mistake I would make because NOTHING of mine is on auto refill and I check over and over to make sure of that. After having been the 4th time I had called them about this issue I finally said screw you guys im done with this and had them completely deactivate the phone and the account. Another issue was the phone. I got the pink keyboard slider phone that operated on android...well it wouldnt run a lot of games cuz it wasn't set up for that and it wouldn't do live wallpapers cuz once again, it wasn't set up to work with that. The keyboard keys were in a weird order and I did not like the setup at all. Another problem with the phone was that it was junk. These phones are supposed to be for kids. SO you think they'd make them more durable. My daughter dropped hers a couple times, as expected from a 10 year old, and after that, it would shut off on its own constantly and things just wouldn't work right. I would not recommend this phone company to ANYONE. You will just get ripped off, and the people who wrote good reviews were probably the people who have barely even tested the product out or haven't even had to go thru anything troublesome yet. I stuck with it for a year, I tried and tried to have more patience and work around the problems. Then they did the renew without my permission thing AGAIN so ive had it. Theres plenty of other better no contract companies out there, or just get a tablet or ipod, you can call and text free on them things nowadays. Just saying. :) Plan Options Plans were okay priced, except it says picture mail is included. But its not. When id call to ask why I cant send and receive pictures they say because its data and I have to use email or other such things that you have to buy a separate data plan for. So they lied on their plans page about it. Customer Service Quick to answer calls, which was nice. Very quick to argue that your wrong and they wont refund you even tho they stole money from you unless you throw a big fit and argue for almost an hour.

The flexibility of the plans is stunning, BYOD available

5

Kajeet represents the pinnacle of flexibility in the context of my family's mobile needs. I am a sprint customer, and tend to upgrade phones quite often. Kajeet uses Sprint's CDMA network, so whenever I upgrade my own phone, I suddenly have a spare available for one of my kids that can be activated on a sprint MVNO like Kajeet. My 15 y/o inherited my Galaxy S2, and my 10 y/o has the Epic Galaxy (essentially the "Galaxy S1") which I picked up on ebay a year ago for about 60$. Using Kajeet's online activation eligibility tool, I put in both phone's DEC numbers and Kajeet apparently could verify that the phones' ESN's were clean and ready for activation. I purchased the plans, followed the relatively simple activiation and unlocking instructions, and within 15 mins both kids were active and on their plans. I really don't need to go into much detail here about coverage or call quality - as mentioned before, Kajeet is a sprint MVNO, so whatever sprint's coverage and quality is in your area is what you should expect from Kajeet. I suppose my fave feature of Kajeet is the weekly usage email I get from them showing my kids cell activity, broken down by data usage, time usage (i.e., 50 minutes used from 9p-7a, 110 minutes from 7a-3p, etc), most called contacts, and so forth. The email report does a really good job of showing at-a-glance my children's usage trends. I don't mean to knock the company for the actual prepaid phones that they sell, because the prices are comparable to pretty much any network or MVNO, but I just can't stomach those prices when such great deals can be found on ebay or Craigslist. But buyer beware....if you buy a sprint branded phone off of those sites, you better make sure it has a clean ESN or it cannot be activated. Overall, because of the shockingly wide variety of very cost-efficient plans Kajeet offers, their service is very highly recommended unless you happen to live in an area where Sprint reception is awful, which I imagine isn't the case for most areas. Call Quality Same as sprint, which is fine. Coverage Same as sprint, which is fine. Plan Options I have one kid on the 14.99 plan and another on the 24.99 plan with data. both plans EASILY suffice for my kids usage, especially considering most of their data is gathered through wifi anyway. Features The ability of parents to remotely check the location of their children's phone is great, not to mention the text/call blocking which can be done according to unwanted phone numbers, time blocks, etc. Customer Service When I have dealt with Kajeet employees, they have been awesome. You do tend to get quite a bit of email from the service, though. Not full-on spam, but not terribly important email, either.

Very poor customer service.

1

The customer service is awful. I bought a phone and plan for my 10-year-old. The phone didn't work, so I sent it back. For weeks customer service would not tell me the status of my refund or if I'd get a new phone. I knew they received the phone, because it was sent UPS. Finally, after going through my credit card company, they refunded my money. I then had to call 3 times to cancel my account with Kajeet, and I'm still not sure they cancelled my account.

Great for basic text talk, cus service sucks

4

1 year ago I changed my 2 Sprint phones over to Kajeet. 1 is my 11yo daughters the 2nd is mine. We do not talk much on the phone but mainly use texting (great when you have kids, trust me). Transferring the phones was a PITA but once done all is good. Like I said, Customer Service really does SUCKS and you really have to keep ontop of them to get what you are looking for. Make sure you set the Features online before using the phone. I didn't block any times as my daughter is good with the phone. I did have to set blocks to certain numbers when I got a bombard of Spam calls. I didn't answer the calls so I googled the numbers. I also got some Spam texts which for some reason you can not block because it doesn't give a full tele number. If there is a problem, CALL Kajeet, they NEVER respond to Emails. Forget adding $$ to the Wallets, other then the main one if you Really need it. If you set up your phones on line correctly and your child knows the rules, you should be all set. Make sure you go over everything with your child ! You can text yourself FREE and it will tell you how many min you have left and what you have used. I pay $32.98 a month for 2 phones, Unlim Text + 60 min of talk- No internet- No pic mail. I was paying $100 through Sprint for about the same, maybe a little more min in talk. But like I said we don't talk that much. I have Magic Jack at home. Costs about $1 a month. Bought it at Walgreens so I could return it if I didn't like it in 30 days. It was like $40 and came with 1 year. You will need a REALLY good phone, cheap ones are bad hearing. So it is not Perfect but MAN is it cheap !! With these 2 phones and the magic jack we have saved a TON of money, at least $100. Internet is for at home on the computers. There are other company's out there with $50 everything plans I hear. It is just not worth it to do it on the phone to me. And yes, we are a bunch of Geeks here in my house. The people who are upset didn't push to get things done and must be really needy people. I can not say anything about Kajeet phones other then they look $$$ for what they are which is out of date phones. Go to Sprint and buy a NEW one directly. Just remember it is a long process to get it programmed through Kajeet but the $$ you will save is so worth it. I have saved $800+ in the past year with the cell phones alone ..... now if I could get cheaper Internet/TV at home ... :) Call Quality Depends on the phone, but our 2 phones are great. Same as with Sprint Coverage Had Sprint before so it is exactly the same Plan Options Great for Basic text/small amount of calls. Not so great for Internet, you can get cheaper though $50 month everything plans elsewhere Features We only use Text and some talk, but I like the blocking feature online, you CAN NOT do that with any other company ! Customer Service Sucks, period. make sure you are level headed and have time.

Very disappointing with this company and their system

1

I have been working with them for 3 weeks to active the new phone I ordered from them, they just cannot make my transferred phone number to work in their system. Somehow, Kajeet system does not integrated with Sprint well, and my phone always shown error like registration with Sprint failed, and they customer service guys cannot make it work. It's so wired since phone come from Kajeet, and they control the system, why registration with Sprint failed even is an issue? Their process is slow too, everything seems like take up to 5 days to process, and if you check the status with them after 5 days, they cannot tell. I just cancel my account with them. I'm not confident with them at all after 3 weeks struggle with them. Call Quality The phone I received from Kajeet does not go this far. Coverage Cannot tell since the new phone cannot work Customer Service At certain point, I post mail my phone to them for replacement based on their suggestion, and 7 days after usps confirmed delivery, their customer service guy still cannot find the device in their depot, and no one takes action to process my replacement.
