I've had this heater for a long time, and while it's very effective heating small to medium sized rooms, I have to say that cats absolutely love it. I have two cats and literally every single time I pass this heater, at least one of them (if not both) are laying in front of it. This is a great aspect of the heater though, as even with those two fuzzballs taking the heat, it still warms up a room. Performance This heater does exactly what you want it to - it heats things up. Occasionally it can have an annoying cricket-like sound, but that's usually due to it not being on a flat surface. Have only had this problem a few times, and it's remedied easily. Ease of Use Unbelievably easy to use. Just flip it on and turn the knob as hot as you want it. Durability This thing has taken some tumbles. It's been knocked over, dropped, and even kicked once, but it's stood the test of time and continues to be with me today. Design Admittedly, it's rather ugly, but it does its job.

I have used the Lasko 5812 Automatic Air-Flow Heater with Temperature-Regulation System for two seasons now and have been very impressed with it's performance. Almost all the heaters on the market do what they're made for: heating. It's a simple wire that you pass current through to heat it up. However where this Lasko unit beats the competition is the additional features it offers and it's reliability. In features, the thermostat temperature regulartion works fairly well: if I leave it on at night I can hear it go on and off. The unit itself if very well built and shows quality. There is also a tip over switch that switches the unit off whenever the unit gets tipped over. It's actually quite stable but I do manage to tip it over once in a while. All in all a pretty good unit with a good feature set and reliable. I only gave it 4/5 stars because of the inherent flaw with all resistance heaters: it is doing the heating rather inefficiently. Nothing but a reliable heat pump would deserve 5/5.

the lasko 5812 space heater costs about 30.00 and heats up a good area.  i use my lasko heater in my den in the winter and it really takes the chill out of the air. it has a shut off signal so that if the dog or one of the kids bump into it the heater will shut off automatically because it has a tip over switch.  you can also adjust the level of heat you want from low to high  its not low--high switch its more like low and then about ten dots to high so you can adjust it to  whatever your comfort zone is.

We used this heater for (4) years, before it quit working, & I am going to buy another one. Our couch is next to a big picture window, in a 100 yr. old house, so it gets drafty on cold nights. This heater can run for hours, & still remains relatively cool-to-the-touch. Best feature though, is the forced fan. It draws air in from the bottom, over the heating element, then throws it out near the top. It tends to send dry heat if it runs for a lengthy time, but we just put a pan of water near the bottom, & the air has some moisture to it(better for your sinuses). As always, use on an outlet that is not overloaded(we never blew a fuse once), & if you use an extension cord, use a heavy-rated one(as you should do with all electric type heaters). You can buy them in smaller lengths(6 to 15 Ft.), so you can move the heater from living room to dining room,for example. The handle insert on the top-back of this unit is easy to use. We keep our gas-furnace at 58 degrees while we are at home, but this little unit kept us warm, & is efficient on the electric bill(not to mention relatively quiet for being fan forced). I'm 50 yrs. old, & have owned many portable heaters, & this has been my favorite. Only downfall would be running all night in a bedroom,as the control is really not meant for automatic on-off. But for tv viewing,computer usage, reading,etc., where you want strong heat right now, this unit will do the trick.
