I don't understand why this doesn't have good reviews. As far as lashes falling out due to mascara, that will happen will any and all mascaras if you don't make sure the make up is completely removed. It's been known to happen with all mascara's, so it has nothing to do with the actual prodcut itself. Mascara does that because (and it's usually waterproof mascara) it's not washed out, so it's where you left it. Which is all over your lashes and at the roots as well. Since almost all say to start at the roots, since it's not getting washed away, it's stuck there. So it clogs the pores that allow eyelashes to grow. Since eyelashes fall out like hair, you notice it more since more lashes can't grow and this continues until you wash the mascara out. The comment about this mascara being for those with naturally long eye lashes might be true. Maybe thick even, but I find that my eyelashes are for sure being lengthened by this product, that said, I also use an eyelash curler, even so, it lengthens even past the eye lash curler. There's a little definition, but not really all that much. Personally, it's good if you're just wanting to enhance already fine lashes, other than that, you might want something a little more extreme.

Define a lash mascara by Maybellene is wonderful!!!    I have very short, stubby lashes. I have tried TONS of different mascara's and not many, if any, have done what it claimed to do. I bought this on sale and just thought why not try it. Well, to my GREAT surprise, it worked!! It defines my little stubby lashes and not only lengthens them, but seperates and plumps them as well! I use the waterproof kind and it is great, but washes off easily with a little soap and water or make up remover.  Great, is all I can say!!!!!!!!!!!!! Worth your money!!!

I originally bought this mascara because it was on sale at the store. I am not usually picky about the mascara, but want normal looking eyelashes. The Define-A-Lash ensures that my lashes aren't clumpy, but instead, real looking. I use the Black shade, which is fairly dark, but not un-natural looking. I have found it goes on sale quite often, making it fairly inexpensive. If you're looking for lots of volume, this is not the mascara for you. Though it says volume, I have found other mascaras to work better for that. However, it does define and lengthen lashes as well, if not better, than other more expensive mascaras that I have previously tried. Sometimes, the brushes can get clumpy in the tube of my mascaras, but I have never had that problem with this one. It even has lasted long enough that I've had to throw it out for fear of it being too old before it has actually gotten old and clumpy in the tube!

About a year ago I ran out of the mascara I'd been using. I went to the store to buy more, only to find out it wasn't being made anymore. It was a popular brand, but apparently that particular mascara had been discontinued. And so my search started for another mascara.... My bathroom drawer is littered with the proof of my journey. I tried lots of different brands, different formulas. Most(even waterproof) were smudged by the end of the day, leaving me with raccoon eyes. Some clumped terribly. Some irritated my eyes. And then I found Maybelline Define a Lash mascara! I use the waterproof formula and I love it! It goes on smoothly--no clumping. It does indeed define my lashes and also gives them a bit of volume. It holds up through the day, so no more raccoon eyes at night! I tried a lot of mascaras, and this is the one for me! I would recommend it to anyone.

This is my favorite mascara so far. I've tried a couple and this is the only mascara that holds my curl and makes my eyelash look longer. I think it only clumps a little and that creates volume. It's also waterproof. That goes as an advantage and disadvantage. Because it's waterproof, and moisture doesn't affect its hold on your lash. However, it's a pain in the *** when you come home buzzed from alcohol and you have to take off your mascara. I have to use eye makeup remover, then wash my face, then use eye makeup remover again just to get this completely off my eye. This is a little drawback but I think it's nothing compared to how great of a mascara this is. The brush that comes with it isn't the best but it does the job. My lashes aren't that long and I think that it lengthens my eyelash. Once my friend even thought I was wearing fake lashes. This only proves this is a great product and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.

I am in love, this is one of the few mascara's that I have bought a few tubes of. Whats not too love? the price is great, the brush is AMAZING--I would argue that the brush is the best I have ever used and the product doesn't clump and adds volume. I usually use three mascara's, givenchy phenomen eyes to get all the hairs, l'oreal carbon black for volume and this mascaras to coat and to really make my lashes pop out. This masacra doesnt curl well, and it will flake after a long day, but overall for the price the quality by far surpasses any negative things. Also, the waterproof is kind of hard to get off, so make sure that you use eye make up remover and not just your face wash to get it off. Be careful as well when touching your lashes because this stuff stays on and you can accidentally rip out some lashes like I did once. I love this masacra and I would definitely recommend it to everyone!!

I'm not much of a makeup person.  I do NOT have great lashes.  My lashes are rather short and thin and seem to grow in slightly different directions.  I have tried many mascaras over the years trying for a longer, fuller, more uniform look.  I have finally found what I was looking for in Maybelline Define-A-Lash Volume mascara.  I have used other Maybelline products, and products from numerous other manufacturers, but none have come close to the results produced by this amazing mascara. And many of the others I've tried are double the price of Maybelline products. The brush does seem to "grab" and length the lashes, and I love that there are no clumps.  I also have fairly oily eyelids which has previously led to smudges even with waterproof mascara.  This is another problem I DON'T have to deal with thanks to Defin-A-Lash.  Even as a non-makeup person, I'll be enjoying the benefits of this mascara for a long time.

In my quest for the perfect mascara I recently tried **Maybelline**'s new **DEFINE-A-LASH Volume Mascara.**  I bought number 831 VERY BLACK in waterproof. The package showed a new concept brush that supposedly is shaped like the lashes grow for more volume and definition.  I don't know who they tested the product on but it is obvious it wasn't someone with puny, thin, short lashes like mine!The directions say to apply the mascara upwards from the root to the tip repeating until the desired look is achieved.  It says to not allow the lashes to dry in between coats but following the directions precisely does little to define and volumize.  To Maybelline's credit the mascara did not clump and it did not flake or smudge.  Funny me, I can find several mascaras that will do that.  I want more!  **Bottom Line:**Don't waste your money on this one unless you have naturally thick, full lashes and want a light coat for definition.
