This is an excellent brand of dog food. It has no grains in it, which means it's a perfect dog food. The funny thing is, one of my cats prefers to eat this whenever I leave it out for my dog. I don't know if it's good for cats so I try to feed my animals separately, but it has to be good if a cat likes it. My dog will eat all kings of cat food, but this is the first time my cat has eaten a dog food. Quality of Ingredients Natural Balance Sweet Potato&Chicken Dog Food is made of high quality ingredients. The first ingredient in this dog food is actually sweet potatoes. The next ingredients are salmon, salmon meal, canola oil, and then potato fiber. The only thing that's in this dog food which I don't like is natural flavor. I really wish companies wouldn't put this in dog or cat food because usually natural flavor isn't natural. Natural flavor could be human hair, duck feathers, or worse yet it could be beaver anal glands. I have rated the ingredients a seven because of this. Rather than that ingredient, it's a great food. I have written the company, but haven't gotten a response. I suggest others do the same if they feel that there shouldn't be an unnatural ingredient in this dog food like natural flavor. Flavor Selection I couldn't believe how much my dog loved this. It was hard to believe it was made out of sweet potatoes. I feel a dog should eat sweet potatoes, not cornmeal and gluten. The second ingredient is salmon, that's probably the reason my dog loves this brand of food.

We adopted our second dog from a group that brings dogs from areas with large stray problems to New England the day after she arrived at her foster home. She had been in three homes in two months and no one knew where she had been before that. All we knew was that she was sweet, young and her skin and coat were a mess. The vet quickly ruled out any sort of illness or infection and her best guess was that all those months of changing and uncertain diets had really irritated our girl's skin. She recommended a limited ingredient diet to give her system a chance to recover and us a chance to try to figure out if she had an allergy to something in dog food she had eaten or if the problem dated back to something she had eaten when she was a stray. We went with the Fish and Sweet potato because our vet felt that the Omega 3's in the fish would help her skin heal that much faster. We switched our other dog to it as well so that we didn't have to worry about the new pup eating the others food. They both loved the food from the first meal. Within a week we noticed that our pup wasn't scratching anymore. About a week after that her skin looked 110% better than when we brought her home and within the first month her coat was sleek and shiny and her weight was perfect. We have kept them both on the Natural Balance almost constantly for two years. They both love the food and we love how healthy it is for them!

My dog developed severe skin allergies when he was a few years old. Apparently this also extended to food. After changing to the Natural Balance Fish and Sweet Potatoe his itching improved significantly. With an alternative protein source (fish) his body did not treat it like other items. Also, with the added omega 3 from the fish it also helped to make his coat much healthier. Quality of Ingredients The ingredients are all natural and different than most food brands, leading to an uncommon source of protein alleviating some allergy symptoms. Also this falls into the "limited ingredient diet" line of dog food that does not contain all of the grains that many animals are allergic to. The basic natural ingredients make for fewer possibilities of allergic reaction. Flavor Selection My dog absolutely loved the different taste of this dog food. All of the natural balance brand foods have unique flavors that give dogs a different taste to enjoy. I would also recommend the bison flavor.

I have a boxer who was 4 years old when out of nowhere, he became allergic to the chicken in his dog food and began throwing up in the middle of the night. My husband and I tried several foods until our vet gave us this L.I.D. sweet potato & fish, and thank goodness she did. Gizmo stopped vomiting immediately after we switched. Natural Balance has helped him so much and we all just love this food!

One of my dogs was a puppy mill rescue where she was used as a breeding dog.  As with many puppy mill rescues, she has severe separation anxiety.  Natural Balance Fish & Sweet Potato dog food was the first thing I found that ever distracted her enough so that I could leave without her anxiety escalating to the point of insanity.  I did learn, however, that she loves the food so much that I just can't leave it in the bowl because she inhales it!  We certainly don't need to make a trip to the vet for bloat!  So, instead, I started putting 1/2 of her daily food in an interactive toy that causes her to work for her food.  It keeps her mentally engaged while working to get all the smelly little bits out of the toy.  I also occasionally use the kibble as training treats because it is extra stinky (in a good way!) and she really loves it.  When I first got her, the foster family had been feeding her Beneful, which is the equivalent of humans eating the scraps off the grill at Burger King - not good.  She had some uneven spots in her coat, and it wasn't as shiny or smooth as the picture perfect labs you see in pictures.  After switching her to the Natural Balance food, I noticed positive changes in her coat.  I have since received many compliments - even from our vet - about how beautiful the deep chocolate color of her coat is and how soft her fur feels.  Now she's my perfectly beautiful, picture perfect pup - thanks in part to the great nutrition from her Natural Balance diet.

I adopted a retired breeding Portuguese Water Dog a few years ago who I later found had severe allergies.  She had loose stool constantly and I honestly thought it was just how she was.  She also constantly scratched and sucked on her paws.  I finally found some food that she could tolerate Timberwolf Organics Ocean Blue dog food which was great, but ridiculously expensive.  Last summer, they began changing their packaging and did not have any large bags.  My dogs are 60 and 100 pounds, so buying 15 pound bags was killing us and I was unhappy with the way the company handled this.  I tried slowly switching our dogs over to this formula and they did great.  Not only do they seem to not have any allergic reaction or gas from the food, they actually seem to enjoy it.  I am very happy with the quality and value of what I am purchasing and plan to use this food for a long, long time.  The company seems to provide high quality ingredients at a fair price.
