Decent, Reliable Cable Company

4

I've been with Optimum for a little over a year now and I have both positive and negative thoughts about the company. Call Quality My phone service is usually great but there have been times when I couldn't make outgoing calls, couldn't receive calls, and calls have been dropped for no reason. I actually had to contact customer service the other day because I couldn't make outgoing calls for 24 hours. They ended up having to reset my modem on their end. Features I think they have great features, especially DVR and exclusive access to News 12. Customer Service I am very happy with Optimum's customer service. Their representatives always go out of their way to help me. They walk you through all of the troubleshooting steps without rushing you. The last time I contacted them, they assisted me in finding a way to lower my monthly bill. And they can be reached via phone or live chat which is convenient. Live chat helped me last time when my phone service was out.

Not a happy customer

Not a happy customer is an understatement about once having optimum online, phone, and television service. Before I switched to optimum, I had direct tv which I did not like at all. The pricing was ridiculous and every time there was a storm, we would lose service. So I seen a commercial for the optimum triple play which seemed like a great deal and made it seem as if they have a lot of features including the highest speed for your Internet. Within a few months of having it installed, the box would stop working or freeze in the middle of one of my kids shows. After having to reset the box ten times, I had a repairman come and try to fix it. They replaced my box three times before I finally had it. Not only was the cable a disaster but my phone would give me problems only ringing one time and me missing my calls and it not showing up on the caller ID. Finally the Internet that they claimed was faster than anything else out there, wasn't. Movies I was streaming would constantly stop working, my Internet browser I had no problems with in the past would just freeze until I restarted the computer. Overall, I was extremely dissatisfied and felt like I was lied to and would never go back to optimum again. I definitely would not recommend this as a first choice provider.

Optimum Not for Me

2

I have years and years of experience with this company, no matter what name they are currently using. They were once a small, customer friendly cable television provider. As they grew and changed names many times, their customer service declined. I always took advantage of the new and improved services they had to offer, but when I became unhappy with the quality and reliability I switched a few times only to come back again. My last experience with them was less than a year ago, before I decided to end it once and for all. I was consistently having problems with my Internet connection and it was very slow in comparison to what I have now. My cable television connection was out more times than I can count and they were always very slow to make repairs. The boxes they provided were used and looked it. They did not offer a lot of shows I wanted to be able to see. The worst thing that was the straw that broke the camel's back was after having their services for such a long time, at the end of the promotion I was on, they wanted to increase my rate by over $40 a month and reduce my services. I thought that to be outrageous as no other company that I found was charging nearly $200 a month for no premium channels at all, a slow unreliable Internet connection and basic phone service. This was coming from customer retention. When I called a higher up in the company to complain about my treatment, they searched their recorded phone conversations and listened to them. I found that to be intrusive even though I was telling the truth. I am very happy I said goodbye to Optimum and would never return.

Pixilated, unreliable, unavailable, expensive monopoly

I live in an apartment building and being that my husband works in telecommunications, I understand that we DO NOT HAVE A CHOICE in our provider. They can't run multiple lines to this building. So we knew what we were getting into when we moved here: BRESNAN. Unfortunately, the semi-quality company we came to rely on sold out a year after we moved into our apartments and Bresnan became "Optimum" which is actually CABLEVISION incognito. If you know anything about Cablevision you know they are known for their lack of quality. My first experience with this company was our internet. They promise fast speeds -- "up to 10X faster than dsl." That would be great if they were actually as fast as they promise. Run a ping test and you will see you are not getting anything NEAR to what they are promising. Whether due to throttling or equipment failure on their part or just generally poor wiring, it is nowhere near as fast as the speeds we are paying for. So, first thing we did was get rid of their internet and get DSL and I can say for a fact our DSL when we run a ping test is MUCH MUCH faster. So that was the first lie. Second thing that happened was our apartment complex decided to sever their contract with the company. That was fine, we were already paying above what the contract with the complex was so we figured we were fine. Nope. Instead of looking to see who had a contract with the cable company and not just the complex they thought they'd save time. They sent out 7 trucks (I actually took a picture of this because it was ridiculous) and 10 techs!!! 10. And sat in front of our complex eating Wendy's and hanging out all day and cutting ALL LINES. Our cable was then out for 5 days. We called to complain and they tried to blame US for their cutting our cable. Then told us they'd come reconnect it "at no charge." No charge?? We were already paying over 100 bucks a month AND THEY CUT IT!!! I am not just saying this as a customer. My husband has worked for several national cable companies, one of them being Charter (which was very decent for a large national company) and I know how it works and I know the ins and outs and how hard they are on techs, etc. This was ridiculous. Further, they kept trying to charge us for our own modem, saying that we needed to return it. It is OUR modem. They kept trying to tell us we had their modem. It has just been one thing after another with them and if I had any way to switch I would. Right now we have the lowest package available and as I type this we are watching a dvd because the cable is out once again. I would NEVER choose to have Optimum if I had a choice of another provider. Call Quality N/A do not have the phone service Coverage Internet is terrible Customer Service Outsourced and no local numbers. If it weren't for the fact that my husband knows some of the local people personally we would probably never get anything fixed ever.

Low Price, Bad Service

1

After having Dish Network for 7 years, I decided to try a promo with Optimum/Cablevision. Phone, cable tv, & internet service. It hasn't been a year, and I've had at least 10 reps come to my home to not complete a repair. The idea is great for the Triple Play, but this now Triple Threat has caused my internet service to go down constantly that I have to attempt a service call. Sounds like a good idea, but they ALWAYS stand me up. Supervisors don't even try to assist. They just have the nerve to give me a survey to rate their performance-that no one ever follows up on. I wouldn't complain so much, but, in my area, I cannot get Verizon or AT&T for internet service yet.

Inundated with telemarkers since switching to Optimum Online

2

I purchased the Optimum three-deal package: phone, internet, and cable.  Now the phone rings constantly with telemarkers that are downright evasive- they hang up when I answer and continue to call back when told not to, claiming that I have no authority to tell them to not call.  I am on the Do Not Call list and rarely received telemarketing calls before switching to Optimum Online.  I fear that there must have been some hidden clause that they could share or sell my info- and these are the creepy people with unsavory practices that they give my phone number to.
