I got these monitors because they were cheap and I am poor. Unfortunently I got them at my baby shower, opened them right away and then didn't find out till my baby was born that in order to hear her I had to turn the volume way up which caused so much static that I couldn't even hear her over it.  I moved it to several different locations after reading about electronic interference with no luck, also tried different plugs in both rooms because apparently sometimes that matters.  Complete waste of money because you will have to do what I did and turn around and spend more money on a better monitor and be out for those...

We registered for a pricey video monitor, and it's the only "big" gift we didn't receive at our shower.  Our intention was to purchase it ourselves, but we got busy and never got around to it.  And, looking back, I'm glad.  The first few nights home from the hospital we were SO tired, I know I would have stayed up all night looking at the video monitor instead of getting some sleep when we could.  When my daughter was about 6 weeks old, I bought the Safety 1st Glow & Go Monitor so that I could hear her when I was in the basement working out or doing laundry, and so my husband could hear her if he was working outside or in the garage.  I wanted something simple and easy, and cheap (since we wouldn't use it often).  This did the trick.  What sold me on this monitor was actually the built in temperature reading on the base unit (which stays in the baby's room).  I was very paranoid about it being too cold or too hot in her room when we first brought her home - and with this monitor I can easily check.  The sound quality is fine, and it's exactly what I was looking for.

This was not my first choice of baby monitor, but my husband and I are on a very tight budget, and were told that for the price, this was a decent monitor. It is very easy to use, just plug it into the wall and push the button on the front to turn it on or off.  The built in night light is really cute and turned out to be much brighter than I would have expected (still not quite on par with a regular night light, but sufficient).  It creates a nice little glow, so I don't feel quite so bad leaving my son alone in the dark.  The volume control can also be set pretty high, so should you need to go in the other room for a minute, you don't have to worry about unplugging it and bringing it with you. Really, the only downside is that it makes HORRIBLE feedback noises for weird reasons, sometimes.  It may just be because we're in an apartment, but if we put it in certain places, move it too close to electronics, or put it next to other certain objects, it gets a lot of static/feedback.  Sometimes just walking past it creates the noise.  Or maybe we're just haunted ;)

When baby #3 came along, we needed a replacement monitor. Our house isn't tremendously large, but we still needed something to help us listen out for the baby at night. I didn't want to spend wads of cash on a monitor and this one caught my attention. The reviews on it weren't stellar, but for the price, I was willing to take a risk. We've been using it now for 2 months, and so far, I have been pleased with this monitor. The reception on it is great. I love the fact that it has this built in night light. When I need to peek in on the baby, or during middle of the night feedings, all I have to do is pop on the night light and I have all the light I need to see well. The light will stay illuminated for 10 minutes before it automatically shuts off, which is a great plus. The amount of light doesn't disturb the baby either. If If you're on a budget or just need a replacement monitor, give this one a try- you won't be disappointed.
