Before we had our son, we would laugh at these, wondering who needed to see their baby 24/7. After we moved him into his own room however, things changed. Everytime he cried we would hold our breath "Does it sound like he is against the bumper?" I would ask my wife. "You think he pulled his arm out of the swaddle?" she would reply. So, we got one of these and it was amazing. Anytime we heard cries from the nursery we could turn this on and see that he was fine. Instead of filling with apprehension, we could check on him, see he was fine, and go back to sleep. This camera had excellent night vision. It would seem almost totally back in his room, but on the screen it would be as light as day. The microphone is powerful and clear. The only thing I don't like about this product is the battery. After a few months the hand held monitor would not hold a charge for more than 10-15 minutes, making us keep it plugged in. this was annoying, but not too much of a concern as we mainly needed it in the middle of the night. All in all, a great product that I could not imagine not having around.

I initially registered for a regular, audio monitor.   After thinking it over and discussing it with other new moms, I decided to return it, and trade up to a video monitor.   I wanted an affordable option, that would be reliable and easy to use.  I also wanted a parent unit that I could walk around with while I went from room to room.  That's why I decided to purchase the Safety 1st True View video monitor.  The camera has a night view setting that makes it easy to see the baby at night.  We had the camera placed on the top side of his crib until he was old enough to reach up and grab it or the cord.  Then, we moved it to a dresser near his crib.  When we moved the camera further away, we had to turn on a nightlight in his room so that we could see him in the dark.  The night view just didn't reach him once it was further away.  There is very little feedback sound when the monitor is on.  The only thing I would change about it is the bright blue light on the parent unit.  It is a bit bright in the bedroom at night.  So, we just put it out of sight while we're sleeping.

If you're looking for a video monitor, you probably want something that can act as a good audio monitor that provides a visual element when you need it. That's exactly what this does. Every night we set this in the corner of my daughter's crib and use it as our primary monitor. We have traditional ones but never use them. One of the best features that is absolutely essential is the night vision. You can clearly tell when it's on because the color goes away, using infrared light instead. Even in the pitch black of night the image is clear and smooth. In fact the high light, color image is probably not as good but we never use that one. A great feature on the receiver is the ability to turn on and off the picture easily. You don't need the video all of the time so it's a great battery saver. The unit is rechargeable and will probably last between five and six hours on a charge if you turn off the video. The one complaint I have is with the 'on' light on the camera. It's extremely bright and lights up the entire crib.

We purchased the Safety First digital video monitor for our second baby to replace a Fisher Price basic monitor model.  We were looking for a product that included video, had less static, and was digital for our privacy.  We have not been disappointed after nearly 7 months of use. Things I like: -I love the video feature of this monitor.  It is in color during the day time, and it uses "night vision" when it is dark.  Although there is no color at night, the picture is still super clear so I can see my baby's position whenever I check on her. -The volume is adjustable, and on the lowest setting I can hear my baby if she cries without hearing the monitor itself.  We run a white noise machine in her room, so I just hear that.  In the event that we forget to turn on the noise machine, the monitor is very quiet. -We have not had any feedback or interference problems.  Our old monitor would have periodic static bursts that could wake you from a dead sleep.   -You can turn the video feature off and only use audio while you are sleeping or in a different room. -We have not had any problems with a dropped signal, even outside our home.  Granted, we don't have a large home, but it is two stories.  The monitor works downstairs with no problems. -This is a digital video monitor, so you don't have to worry about your privacy.  Your neighbor can't pick up your frequency and see/hear you or your baby. Things I don't like: -Short battery life.  When the monitor was new, you could get almost two hours with the audio feature, about half that with the video on.  Now at about 7 months of use, we get about 1 hour with audio and 30 min for video.  This is not really an issue for us, and if it does become one we can simply bring the adapter with us and keep it plugged in. -Bright blue lights on both parent's and baby's pieces.  I ended up taping over the light on baby's piece.  For ours, I simply turn the video off and put the monitor with the blue light down while I sleep. Overall, this is a good model for the price point.  I gave it 4 stars due to the decreasing battery life.

i have read not-so-good reviews on the safety 1st baby monitor but i absolutely love it! i have no complaints about it. not even the price because i got it brand new on a bidding site (i'm not sure if i can mention it) at half price. i can be in the kitchen doing dishes or cooking while listening and looking at my baby. i have a pretty decent size condo and i have never lost signal. i didn't have this with my first two, i'm so glad i got it this time around because i really do have my hands full. i don't have to constantly be walking into his room to check on him (which sometime i wake him when i do), with this monitor i know he's ok. i get so much done. it runs on batteries and also a power cord, you choose. its small, cute and light weight. it has a volume adjuster, night vision and a contrast adjuster. this is one of the must have items, you should definitely put this on your registry.

this monitor is so very nice because i never worry about my baby whether he is ok.  i can always look at the screen in my kitchen and know he is sleeping ok.  i like that i can just take the small handheld with me outside while i a doing gardening or washing my car in the driveway or sitting on the porch.  whatever i am doing i can hear if they are any problems while he is sleeping.  i also know when he wakes up and can see him sitting in the crib reading one of his many books before he decides to call out for help to get out of bed.  I feel so much better having a monitor in his room for my peace of mine.  i also like it at night  so  that way i know if he wakes up in the middle of the night.  he sleeps across the house from us so i wouldnt hear him without the monitor if i am sleeping too.  my husband also likes the ease of use with this too.  great monitor and great tv.  we've had no issues.
