I love the idea of a push lawn mower that does not use gas or electricity. It reminds me of a simpler time and is just a new more modern version of what my grandfather used. I actually still have his, but it's a bit too rusted and rotted to use. Overall, I really like the Scotts 16-in Elite Push Reel Lawn Mower, but the success of your efforts definitely depends on what type of grass you have. It does a great job on the patches of my lawn that are St. Augustine. However, most of what we still have is the ugly bermuda grass. It seems to have trouble here, a bit like cutting very fine hair. I have to go over these sections several times back and forth like a vacuum cleaner. It is critical to keep the blades sharpened or you'll just be spinning your wheels, literally! Performance Does great on most of my grass Handling Pretty smooth, again, depends on the grass and leveling of the lawn Durability Keep the blades sharp for effective use Safety No issues as long as you know what you're doing. Ease of Use Depends on the type of grass you have. Engine Power Ha! That depends upon how strong you are. I workout regularly, so I"m okay wiht my engine power. :-)

I really hate the Scotts push lawn mower! It is so hard to operate! My father used to make me use this mower to cut the grass when I was on punishment. We had a larger lawn (three quarters of an acre) and he would wait until the grass was really tall and make me cut it with this. It was so hard to push through the grass, even in spots where it was short. If you held it at the incorrect angle it would not even cut the grass so you would have to go over the same spots about three times. If the grass is at all moist you will not be able to cut it. This mower also does not work if you have any type of bumps in the landscaping. Also, good luck trying to cut on any type of incline as it will once again be super hard to find the correct angle to hold the mower at. Please do not buy this mower as it is so difficult to use and will take up so much of your time. Durability I only give this a ten for durability because it is so hard to break and can pretty much be used forever. Safety You will not have flying rocks/sticks/objects with this as you could never get enough impulsion.

In some ways I may be a bit old fashioned but I often find the older innovations have more practicality than some of the newer ones do. This particular model is one I truly enjoy for a few reasons. First and foremost, no motor means no high priced gas so it saves me money. I also like it because it offers me an opportunity to burn a few extra calories from the physical activity. I also love that it is not noisy. If you are the early bird type - you'll really grow to appreciate being able to get your mowing done before the sun starts beating down without disturbing your neighbors.The overall maintanence of the mower is very low. WD-40 oil or whatever brand you prefer every couple months - I would say every 4 or 5 months should do the trick. The mower is very easy to push around but it tends to get stuck on most things that are thicker than grass. It's highly likely that you are going to have to check your lawn for small branches or sticks as well as tiny toys or - if you have a son - those tiny army men. The mower can and will get stuck. The blade area is adjustable so that it's easier to achieve the length of grass you prefer although, it won't cut the grass as low as a motorized gas ran mower would. It works well considering the price and performance together. It stores very well too. It's easier and less bulky if you store it sideways. If you don't want to spend they money on an electric or gas mower, this is a great addtion to your lawn care products. I use this mower at my grandmother's house. She has a small yard and this works perfectly for it. You don't have to worry about it being filled with gas or having a charge. Just take it out and use it any time that you need to. It can occasionally be tough to push, especially if there are any uneven spots on the lawn, but overall, it does a great job of keeping the grass trim and looking neat. Performance It doesn't perform as well as fancy electric or gas mowers, but for the product that it is, it does a great job. Handling This is small and very easy to handle. Durability This is extremely durable as long as you don't store it long term with the blades being wet. Ease of Use This is extremely easy to use since you have no worries about starting something up, changing gears etc. You just pull it out of the garage and push. It can get tough to push in certain conditions (like if you have any holes in your lawn, it can get stuck fairly easily) Engine Power There is no engine, so the power comes from you.

We had the Scotts 16-inch Elite Push Reel Lawn Mower a few years back. It worked great for us. We have a good sized back yard and a sloped front yard and it was quite a workout to use the lawn mower, but we enjoyed it. It did a good job of cutting the grass back to a nice short level and was pretty easy to use on corners near the driveway and work your way around bushes. It has a good resistance level that was not exhausting while you push it all over the lawn. The blades were sharp and cut the way through the grass easily. We even used it a few times on wet grass, when its a little trickier, and it still did a good job. This was a nice workout/chore for my daughters so they used it often. It is simple to keep clean and takes up very little space. Handling Simple and easy. Durability Great durability on ours, we had it for a few years and used it all the time. Safety Good, just keep hands and feet away from the blades. Ease of Use Super easy, my girls would use it all the time.

When we moved into our townhome, it was the first time we had grass that we had to take care of. The front yard maintenance took care of, but we were responsible for our back yard. It was a pretty small yard, so there was no need for an electric or gas power mower. So we ended up with the Scotts 16 inch Elite Push Lawn Mower. It was a reasonable price, and seemed to be made of a good sturdy construction. Our lawn is pretty flat, so I can't review how it would do on hilly or very uneven ground, but for our lawn it did a good job. It was easy to push, didn't get clogged or stuck, and we were able to get the lawn done extremely quickly. I really like that it has the green slat over the roller, unlike a lot of the other models. And this one was pretty light weight. it is very easy to handle, and is pretty durable. Even on damp grass, the blades cut nice and smooth and didn't rust up. The size of the mower makes it easy to store in the shed on a hook. We were pleased with it for our townhome, and now that we own a house, we will still use it as back up every now and then.

This mower is great. some push mowers get caught easy and become hard to push in certain areas, but this one was easy to push and cut evenly. I am very happy with this product and would recommend to people with a small lawn that do not want to worry about extension cords or keeping gas on hand. Performance this mower is so very easy to use and cuts grass close and even. Handling It is very easy to push and doesn't get caught up in dips in the yard or taller grass easily although I would not recommend this mower for hilly lawns. It turns nicely and I like the handle. Durability This mower seems durable so far and it has a sturdy handle. The blades seem sharp and sturdy as well. Safety Be sure to follow manufacturer safety instructions for optimal safety. Ease of Use Very easy to use. We bought this mower last summer with the understanding that it was an inexpensive and green product. It has met but not exceeded any of our expectations. The good: The mower runs quietly and requires no gasoline. Also, you can get a workout mowing and then raking the lawn. The bad: It is a fairly time-consuming and frustrating process. Frustrating because you'll have to go over some parts of the lawn 4-5 times and because the mower is easily jammed by debris. Another downside is that the mower has no bag, so you're required to rake up all the cuttings. Performance With this product you really get out of it what you put into it. It is harder work than a gas-powered mower, but it is healthier and more green. Handling It doesn't work well on uneven terrain but works fine otherwise. Durability I have used this mower for two years and am sure I can get another ten years out of it. Safety I've never feared for my safety while using this product and haven't suffered any injuries. Ease of Use There's a lot of stop and start, so it is fairly straight forward but time-consuming process. Engine Power You are the engine, so I can't really evaluate the product on this.

The perfect choice for a person with enough time and not too much money Performance It cuts the grass pretty well and it costs less than a mower with a motor. This is very important for Earth Day and every other day. I get more exercise with it, too. Handling Very maneuverable! Durability It can go several years without sharpening. There are various ways to adjust it. With a little lubrication it will work much longer, just like a car. When the blades get dull, there is a method in the Owner's Manual to basically make it self-sharpen (you have to reverse the blades and apply some kind of compound from an automotive store). Safety Unlike a power mower, it will not launch projectiles at nearby people in a dangerous way, resulting in several deaths, dismemberments, and blindings annually, but rather in a much more safe and sane manner. Ease of Use It does take a little bit more effort to use, which is good, because we are all addicted to luxury and laziness, and require some challenge in our lives. To me this is better than having a mower that contributes to my sedentary lifestyle. Fortunately I have opted to live in a place that has a modest sized lawn, so this is not a big burden. Engine Power I can give it good engine power by being in shape and eating my Wheaties or alternative grains

I hate lawnmowers. They're cumbersome and noisy, smell horrible, and are just too heavy for me, a petite young lady, to use with any ease. My husband, although strong enough to handle regular gas mowers, wasn't keen on needing to use one either once we bought our first house. So I suggested, almost in jest, one of those mowers with the spinning blades they used to use in the olden days. He had no idea what I was talking about! I Googled it, and to my surprise I found out that these push reel mowers are coming back in style. They're eco-friendly, economical, quiet, and relatively easy to use. So we got serious, and started doing research. We decided on the Scotts Elite after reading plenty of reviews and comparing prices. Putting it together was simple and took about 10 minutes. Then we headed outside. Our grass had gotten very long, but the reel mower took care of it pretty quickly. It sometimes takes several passes to get all of the grass cut in any given spot, but once it's down to a manageable height the mowing goes much faster. It does take a bit longer to get the entire yard, but considering there is no hassle trying to get it started, no need to check the gas and put more in, no messing around with a motor, it doesn't pollute, and it's quiet enough that the entire neighborhood doesn't know when we're cutting our grass, I'd say the extra time is well worth it! I actually enjoy mowing the lawn now. Our yard is small, with a slope in front, and plenty of weeds, but the reel mower still works well. It does get difficult to mow the slope - the mower gets heavy trying to push/pull it up. The lawn doesn't look as "neat" as with a gas mower, since the cut grass just returns to the ground rather than being blown all over the place. There are items you can purchase to attach to the back of a reel mower to catch the grass if that is a concern. We have since purchased an electric lawn mower to replace the reel mower, but if our yard was flat we would have stuck with the Scotts. Engine Power Irrelevant, no engine.
