Sunbeam 4-Slice Toaster Oven

Bought for my dorm but we replaced it QUICKLY.

The Sunbeam 4-Slice Toaster Oven 6198 is a poor product. I did not expect it to be that great when I got it, due to its low price but it was a little worse than expected. This was bought when I moved into my first dorm. We had to get rid of it due to the amount of heat it put off. This toaster oven was small enough for my tiny dorm room. Some other ones I looked at were just too bulky. You could fit 2 personal meals in it with some room to spare so it's size was perfect for my roommate and I. Too bad it would never cook anything evenly. If we wanted out food cooked evenly we would have to turn the meals constantly which was just annoying. After a few uses we noticed the toasted oven let off a lot of heat when it was on. We had a plastic cutting board sitting on top of it that was warped. We quickly removed everything away from it but the heat it radiated was too much. The Residential Assistant from our dorm floor told us we had to get rid of is as soon as possible because it was a fire hazard. I was only able to use this toaster oven about 10 times but the food never cooked evenly and it radiated an extreme amount of heat. Even Heating Had to rotate the food constantly. Safety We were forced to take the device out of our dorm due to it being a fire hazard!

Great for a quick snack!

This is an amazing toaster oven. It heats up very quickly and has a good amount of space. I could use more room, but the size is workable. It can fit a small personal size pizza - which is great. Helps to save on energy because I'm not heating the entire oven for a quick snack. Food tastes much better coming from here than from a microwave. Fits well on a counter and it's easy to move around. If you cover the little pan in foil, it will last forever and make it easy to clean up!

ok product but lousy longevity.

This is one of our 2nd or 3rd toaster ovens that my family has owned. It is a very simple toaster oven: separate settings for heat temperatures and for toaster. There is also a timer which ticks loudly and rings loudly once your meal is ready inside. There is only one rack. Clean up is typical for this type of toaster oven; one opens the bottom of the oven (it's pain-in-the behind to open but it's not that bad) and remove all the fine foody particles. I am not too crazy of this product. I think it does a fair job of heating food evenly but not as good as the classic Black and Decker toaster oven. I notice that when i place frozen fish sticks in the sunbeam brand, i have to rotate the fish sticks to ensure it is crispy and cooked throughout. i did not need to do this with Black Decker one. I notice i have to rotate any type of food, not just fish sticks. In summary, fair product that does the job but not the best out there. Longevity isnt great either. I believe ours lasted a year or so.

Basic Toaster Oven

3

We purchased this toaster oven as an inexpensive solution to our toaster when we moved into temporary housing for 10 months.  The elements are very close to the rack (as with most toaster ovens) so even the toast setting seemed to often burn the toast.  We found it more useful to use for baking small dinners since there were just 2 of us in our household.  I appreciated that fact that it was faster (no prewarming necessary) and used less energy than a wall oven.  However, I constantly found myself frustrated by the fact that this toaster oven only goes to 350 degrees not 400.  So many of the things we wanted to cook, like fries, need to be cooked at a higher temperature.  We often made do with the lower temperature and longer cooking time, but items never got as toasty as the regular oven and some higher temperature items just would not cook properly.  This oven also was a bit small at times...good for counter space but not good to put in larger items.  It is extremely hard to clean and constantly looks dirty (as well as the heat has permanently stained the white finish to a brownish in parts.

Sunbeam Toaster Oven #6198 gets to hot to open the door.

2

Sunbeam Toaster number 6198 gets very hot, I need a pot holder to hold the back of the oven when I open the door, and another pot holder to use on the handle when opened. The lever that holds the dripping tray gets stuck when I open the door and the baking rack comes out and slides down. This causes the items that are being baked to roll or slide off when checking for doneness or when done. When I bake rolls or toast the back bread gets burnt while the front cooks evenly. It is to small to bake pizza in, unless you want to warn up a slice of pizza. I have baked chicken dipped in Shake & Bake and that came out very good, although I turned the chicken a few times to ensure it would not get burnt. I mentioned to my daughter on day when we were out shopping, that I was going to buy the toaster oven. The next week she had gotten it for me. After using it I would not buy it because of these reasons. It is small but I didn't think I needed one larger because it is just for me and my husband, but a little larger would be nice. The price was very good. It is very easy to clean and looks good on the counter.

Sunbeam Toaster Oven: a Must!

4

The Sunbeam toaster oven is a great kitchen appliance. We have had this appliance for nearly two years and have never had a problem with it. The Sunbeam toaster oven is very versatile. We mainly use it for toasting bread and reheating leftovers. I have celiac disease, which means I cannot have gluten (found primarily in wheat). Because of this food intolerance, I cannot use a regular toaster where someone else has toasted regular bread. A toaster oven is a "safer choice" for me because I can clean the baking sheet after each use. This makes me feel much better! My only complaint with this kitchen appliance is that the baking sheet is quite worn and has quite a few burn marks, likely because of how often we use it. That does not affect how it works, though, so it's fine.

Poor craftsmanship

I really don't prefer this toaster oven and i have tried many. I think that if you want a cheap appliance that will last about a month then you might like this but for me, it's a no go (at least again). This is also one of the smallest toaster ovens ever so i don't know why they call it an "oven" when its only use is for toasting bread or snacks. It's also a hazard in my opinion because it gets really hot on the outside surfaces and i even noticed that it browned the top of my kitchen counter so i was not happy with that either. For what it is, i guess you get half your money's worth and that's not saying a lot considering this is really cheap to begin with. I spent very little money so i guess that's why im not surprised that it stopped working after a month of continuous use for toasting bagels and bread. Don't buy this, not worth it.

Sunbeam toaster oven 6198 work very efficiently

I used my sunbeam toaster oven to toast bread, melt cheese on toast and even to bake cinnamon bun and other foods that I don't want to put in the oven. My toaster oven is very versatile and it is quick and easy.

Perfect

This is a perfect toaster oven.  It isn't as big or as nice as many other ones out there, but it does all the basics and it just great.  This is a fairly common brand and so can be found most places that sell small appliances, so that is nice.  It is also pretty inexpensive so even if you don't end up using it as much as you think you might, it's not too crazy of an investment.  I keep this put away in my cupboards but it is not too huge and you could easily have it sit out on your counter.  This is a great appliance for when you're cooking something but it isn't big enough to justify using the whole oven.  It saves on electricity as well as time - it takes much less time to heat up.  This is great for making toast, heating appetizers, or just to warm up dinner for 1.  Once you have this around, you will think of so many other uses for it.  I highly recommend this to anyone.  It would be especially handy for college kids though!

This Toast oven is a most have

I have one. It's small but it is so much better then using a mirowave. You know how you go in a make pizza rolls. How the corners are so hard you don't want to eat them Well, with this toaster oven they come out so much better. Not hard or anything like that. The more you use it the more you will love it. My sister, her boyfriend, my ex boyfriend and I learned that we love it. I know if you give it a try you will love it.
