great product!

this gate is so great because it doesn't have anywhere for the little ones to put their feet to attempt to climb over. It separates them from rooms that i don't want them to be in, and gives me piece of mind. I love that it isn't gaudy and effect my decor. It is easy to clean off when necessary, and stays put when put up properly. My children cant push it down even when they kick it (temper tantrums... gotta love children.) It keeps me up to code with my in home daycare certified through the DES office. i love this product!!

We bought the "The First Years Everywhere Gate " about 3 years ago and we are still using it. It gate has held up very well. We have a 10,5,and 2 year old and the are some rough playing boys.. We love it so much that I had to tell me brother about it when he was shoppomg for a gate.. It's very easy to open and close with one hand. I like the way that you can see through it too.. I would give this gate a A+++ ...

The First Years Everywhere Gate is a safety necessity

4

The First Years Everywhere Gate is a safety necessity in our house. Our toddler son is very active and loves to climb the stairs. We put this one at the bottom of our stairway, since it it tension based. We would not consider putting it at the top of the stairs because it is not approved for the top, since it is not installed to the wall. So that is not a negative at all, but I just wanted to make that clear to those who might consider buying this to not put it at the top of the stairs! That being said, my 14 month old son cannot get this gate off of the bottom of the stairs. It does it's job perfectly. It is easy to use. We've gotten very skilled at using this gate one-handed. I neglected to give it 5 stars because it is difficult to adjust the width of this gate. You have to push on one part and pull on another and it can really be a pain to your fingers! Otherwise, it's a good looking gate that provides great safety for children.

First Years Everywhere Gate....be careful if you have baseboards

4

We purchased this gate to use at the top of stairs to keep our daughter from going down. If you are using at the top of the stairs, you will need to mount it to the wall. You use 4 screws to mount the hinges to the wall on one side, and then mount 2 wall plates to the other side. This allows the gate to swing away from the stairs. If you use this as a tension mounted gate, it will not swing open. You can choose to use it as either one, but it will only swing open if it is wall mounted. I like that you can remove it from the hinge if you need to and use it elsewhere in the house pressure mounted, and then put it back where it was. I also like the see-through plastic and it is a very nice looking gate. The handle is pretty easy to use, although you can't just let it swing closed. You have to physically close it, and it always takes some lining up of the bottom with your leg. We had a very hard time with our baseboards. We have what I would consider pretty standard baseboards. I think they are 2''. The bottom hinge is so low that the bottom screw is on the baseboard, but the top screw is on the angled part of the baseboard, and the screw isn't long enough to support as well as it should in that part of the baseboard. The opposite side ends up not working right either because the top screw is against the wall, but the bottom hole would fall at the baseboard, which would not work. We first tried mounting the bottom hinge above the baseboard completely, but this put the bottom of the gate too high and would have been unsafe. My husband tried about 4 different things, and we finally had to get a handyman to come and he ended up screwing one screw in the carpet, and one in the baseboard, and on the opposite side, he cut the plastic bracket in half so it would fit above the baseboard. A lot of trouble to install with baseboards!

The First Years Everywhere Gate is perfect!

I have a very active toddler boy. We had an extra tall gate with the slots in it but my son started climbing over it, before he was even two. I chose this gate because it didn't look like there was a spot for him to stick his little feet to be able to climb over it and it has worked. The first time we put it up he tried to climb it and couldn't. He also likes that its see through and kind of considers it a game to look through and play peek-a-boo. It is also sturdy, we just recently moved him into a twin bed and it reaches out to where the gate is so he is able to use his bed to climb on it. He will sit on top of it and play with the light switches. If we don't have it installed tight then it will fall, but if we have it put in right it is sturdy. One downfall is its hard to adjust the size if you are switching between different door sizes.

Gate works great

We use this gate to block off a set of stairs to keep our kids and dog in our family room and it works great! The handle makes it easy to open without having to lose the width settings and it's easy to open with one hand. Pressure mounting really make the gate feel secure. We have a different style gate for another staircase and I definitely trust this one more!

My granddaughter never tries to move it!

This gate is amazing!  I am a mom and grandmother.  I still have children at home that I homeschool, but I babysit my "almost 2-year-old" granddaughter frequently.  I am really busy, so I don't want to have to worry about the gate I used not doing it's job.  I have tried 3 other brands and types.  I broke when the dog jumped on it.  The second came out of place when my granddaughter barely pushed on it, and she went surfing down the stairs (fortunately, she wasn't hurt!).  The third was entirely too complicated to put together in the first place, so I returned it before even using!  This one is perfect.  I have no complaints.  I love that it can be used temporarily in a doorway or convert to be attached to a doorway for permanent use.  My granddaughter doesn't even try to move it or climb over it, because she can see through it.  It is very sturdy, and the material used in the "window" area doesn't seem to be breakable, tearable, or anything else.  Neither my granddaughter or 100 lb. german shepherd has been able to do any damage to it!!!  Although not as important, the neutral color and see through window make it very appealing  for use in any part of the house.  There are no parts where the child can get their fingers caught, nor can they get their foot in a position to assist their climbing over the gate.  It was easy to install and their was little to put together.  I would recommend this over any other gate and plan to buy another soon.

The First Years Everywhere Gate is awesome!

Here is one of those things I researched a million of. My husband and I needed something sturdy, wide enough, and could be mounted two ways. This gate is all of those. We first received some of the cheaper wood flexible gates. Those were such a pain because there is always traffic up and down our hall. The wood ones would lose there position or flex when you tried to push down the locking mechanism. We went out to buy one of these to try and were in heaven. Installing it was easy because there was actually a strip that showed you where to drill the hole for a hard mount to the wall. The gate also easily removable from the hinges if you need it down or want to use it in another spot. It takes a little getting used to the two adjustment clips, but because they're completely independent you can get a better fit. Even if you only used the pressure mount it super easy. We also haven't had a problem with the pressure mount. However, the pressure mount is in an area where traffic it not so high. Needless to say we went right out and bought another one and have been using them for five years. They're are so easy and durable. Our pastor even liked them so much that we donated two of them to our children's ministry for some of our rooms.
