Vanicream Sensitive Skin Sunscreen SPF 60

Only for serious small-area coverage or medical necessity

This vanicream SPF 60 is very thick and does not spread on the skin with any ease. In fact I don't see how it could be applied to large swaths of the body successfully. I have used it just in small multiple dabs under my eyes and on my nose. I've also used it directly on a new scar after stitches were removed just to keep the sensitive new skin totally blocked from the sun. But it's very hard to apply. One pearl-sized dab would only cover about one and a half to two square inches of skin. It simply doesn't have the smoothness or moisture to spread any further. Scent There is little to no scent. Absorption This SPF 60 leaves a white / gray film wherever you use it. That's not to say certain compounds aren't absorbed, but the UVA components are quite opaque and visible after application. This is not a sunscreen for everyday use under your makeup. Longevity It lasts where it's applied. Effectiveness I've never gotten any burning or tanning in the areas to which it's applied. Ease of Application As mentioned above, this does not apply easily. It has a thick texture that simply doesn't spread beyond an inch or two of where it's applied. If putting this stuff over a large area of the body like the back, you'd have to dab scores of little dots of this Vanicream 60 over the whole area of the back, evenly spaced, and rub it in from there. Not convenient.

They reformulated the product

I gave this a 5. The original Vanicream SPF 60 was amazing. I have family that worked in a hospital who gave me multiple samples of the Vanicream brand. It was awesome. I bought the full size product shortly after. After I ran out, I went to buy it again, and it was discontinued. I eventually found out that due to FDA relabeling sunscreens, they reformulated their product... to which it now says something like 50SPF+ and 30+ respectively. With that, the formula changed also, like I said. It used to be absolutely amazing, and non irritating. The new formula has castor oil... which makes it greasier. Castor oil also breaks me out. I can't stand the texture of that oil at all, especially in sunscreens. (Avoid it it you dislike that grease feeling also.) Skincare is my hobby, so during the time it was discontinued I searched high and low for it. Pretty disappointed with it now, it's most definitely not the same gentle formula it used to be. I rated it a 5 cause I used to love the product. Absorption Eh. The castor oil makes the new formula stickier.

A Life Saver For Our Baby With Eczema

5

I bought this sunscreen for my 12 month old baby who has mild eczema that was flaring up terribly due to "regular" sunscreens and lotions. Any other sunscreen caused him to instantly start itching and burning. His poor little sensitive skin would get terrible red patches. I hesitantly tried Vanicream sunblock and it was a life saver. No reactions at all. This sunblock is wonderful. He doesn't even tan with it on; which is exactly what I wanted. I follow the directions and reapply after he has been swimming or after an hour or so if he's just playing in the sun. I also use hats and cover ups to limit sun exposure, as sweat sets of his eczema too. This sunblock is wonderful. Thank you. Scent Absolutely no scent, which is perfect for my little baby. Absorption Absorbs nicely. The sunblock is very white and will give a pale appearance. But this is better to me than an eczema breakout or a burnt child. I rub a bit harder when I apply it to myself and it absorbs just fine. Longevity Follow the directions on the tube and you will be just fine. Effectiveness Completely effective. Safe for sensitive skin and keeps me and my baby from burning, or even tanning, in the sun. Ease of Application The sunblock is creamy, but also a bit thick. You need to really rub it on, which can be hard on a squirmy child. But it is worth it to me and he has gotten used to Momma attacking him with sunblock before swim time.

A Very Effective Sunscreen

4

I do not prefer purchasing sunscreen creams as my skin does not suit these products. I purchased this product last year as the heat was too much and my skin was tanning a lot. My friends used to apply sunscreen lotions and they told me also to use one. I was recommended this brand by the medical store as they said that it is a popular brand. After I purchased this product and started using the product, I found a difference in my skin color and my skin tone came back to what it was and it was not affected by the sun rays as well. It protected my skin form the sun and even if I spend hours outside the house, my skin does not get affected a lot. I went to the beach and it was so hot there but since I had applied the sunscreen, my skin color did not change. I do not use sunscreen creams now as the weather has changed but when it gets too hot, I will definitely purchase this cream again as it made a big difference to my skin tone.

A Great Sunscreen for Those with Sensitive Skin

5

I love Vanicream Sunscreen! My child has extremely sensitive skin, so I am very selective about what products I use on his skin. Vanicream's moisturizing lotion has been great for his skin, so when I realized that the company also made a sunscreen I knew we had to try it. It is unscented, which is a very difficult quality to find in a sunscreen. My son has never burned while wearing Vanicream sunscreen. I also really love that it does not feel greasy at all. Once you have rubbed it in you hardly even realize that you are wearing any sunscreen at all. I have also not noticed it staining clothes at all, which can sometimes be a problem with some sunscreens. There are really only two downsides to this product. The first is that it can be a little difficult to find because not all stores carry it. The second is that it is slightly more expensive than some traditional sunscreens. Scent This is unscented, which is wonderful!

Great brand but still feels a little greasy

4

I got this from my local SuperTarget at the advice of the dermatologist last summer. I usually do not use sunscreen anymore because they make my skin either turn red and blotchy or break out in a rash. The doctor said to try this one because he recommends it for those like me with super sensitive skin. When I put it on my face to go to the beach with family I felt like it was somewhat heavy and a little greasy. I expected a light product the way the doctor described it. I did not get as red as normal though with sunscreen and my skin did not feel like it was going to heat up and itch. It lasted for our outing. When we got back to the hotel I tried to wash it off my face though. I had to wash my face several times with soap and water and could still feel some of the greasy feeling. Since I was able to tolerate it I suppose it was worth the money, but it was not what I expected for something that is supposed to be so free of chemicals. Scent I am allergic to so many scents so I was happy that this is basically scent free of a product. Absorption I am not sure that it absorbs vs sits on your skin based on the feel. While you do not have the white caked on look from it, you can surely feel it on your skin the entire time you are wearing it. Longevity I put on one application of this sunscreen when we went to SeaWorld for a day. It clearly lasted all day for me and I couldn't even get it all off when I repeatedly washed at the hotel that night. So I would say it has great longevity. Effectiveness It seemed very effective for its purpose. While it felt greasy on my skin it did not make my skin react in any bad ways and I was able to wear it all day long. So it did serve its purpose in the end. It was expensive compared to many other brands and I have never seen coupons for this brand either, which would be nice to have, but if it works compared to everything else than I guess it is worth it in the long run. It also was effective due to the small size because we easily fit it in our bag for the beach and when we went to SeaWorld. It did not take up much space and was easy to find when we were ready to put it on for the day. Ease of Application While it seemed easy to apply it did give the greasy and thick feeling to it. It only took a few minutes to spread it around though so not much worse than using other sunscreen. If you accidentally touched your face during the day you would have the greasy residue on your finger to remind you that you had the sunscreen on.

Good product for all types of skin and protects!

4

If you want to protect your skin from harmful rays, this is a good choice to use. I have been using this product for a few years now and it really does work. I discovered this product on a website that I purchase products for my allergies and decided to give it a try since it was on sale. It is a fragrance free cream that I use on my face daily. I put it on over my moisturizer and although it spreads easily, I'm not crazy about the "greasy" consistency on my face. Because of that, I only gave it a Good rating, but if they come up with a less greasy product I'm sure my rating will change to a Very Good one. But the main thing that I want from this product is sun protection and it really does work. I will continue to use this product for a long time. Scent Because it's fragrance free, I gave it a satisfactory and that's really what I want in a product that I put on my face and also the rest of my body. Absorption This product spreads very easily on my skin, just not crazy about the greasy feel it leaves me with. Longevity This product lasts a long time and I'm sure that when applied to my face, it's nice and protected for my daily walks outside,etc.... As with any sunscreen, if I was in the sun for hours on end, I think I would reapply it just to make sure I don't get sunburned. I don't think I've ever gotten sunburned when I am using this product. Effectiveness As previously stated, I don't think I've ever gotten sunburned when using this product. It really is a very good product and my 4 oz tube lasts a nice, long time. Ease of Application Very easy to apply, just leaves me feeling a bit greasy unfortunately.

Nice nice sunscreen

5

This sunscreen is a little bit greasy, but if you have dry skin like me, you'll love it. I apply this every morning on my face and neck and have experienced no irritation or new blemishes. It is a bit thick but most sunscreens that contain physical sunscreen agents are. It is really a good sunscreen that I would buy again. Very good spf. I will admit it is a tiny bit costly, but it is worth the extra costs. The tube, which is four ounces, lasts a really long time. I've had this for months without needing to worry about purchansing a new tube anytime soon. Get this. It's an amazing sunscreen without any fragrance whatsoever, parabens, or formaldehyde. It is also non-comedogenic and very moisturizing.

Vanicream Sunscreen is safer.

4

A friend of mine started using Vanicream sunscreen because her kids are allergic to a lot of things.  Her children have even gotten chemical burns from using regular sunscreen.  She went to a specialist for allergies as well as a pediatric dermatologist.  She was recommended this sunscreen by the pediatric dermatologist because it does not have all the harsh chemicals.  It is supposed to be much safer for your skin.  Especially if you have sensitive skin.  I tried the sunscreen on my son who is very fair skinned, with white blonde hair.  He is the kid everyone calls the "toe head".  Poor kid is sooo white!  He did not have any negative reaction and was compelety protected from getting burned.  Even while playing in the sprinkler with the other kids it did not wear off.  I am not sure if it supposed to be waterproof, but it did not rub off right away.  I think it is a great product and would recommend it for those with sensitive skin.

For someone with sensitive skin, this is great!

I have very sensitive skin - basically I have roscea, psoiarsis, eczema, and sebborhea! so finding stuff that my skin doesn't react to is very important to be, as I've also had a basal skin carcinoma. This does not irritate my skin at all. It also seems to somewhat moisturize my skin. I live in NV where the air is extremely dry so moisturizers are a very important part of skin care for me. To find a product that doesn't give me acne, or make my various skin yucks flare PLUS makes my skin look better is a real find. And I'm sure for people with less messed up skin it would work just as well if not better.
