Reliable appliance

This deep fryer has been an like an old friend. My autistic son loves French fries. He has learned to work the fryer himself (He's 19 years old). The fryer never leaves the counter, because he is making something often enough not to drain it. We had this fryer for several years. I would say it got quite heavy use. A couple of weeks ago, it started producing smoke out one of the sides. I have had a very difficult time replacing it. Other models don't seem to have the same capacity or depth. The major problem that we had with this appliance was with the connection from the cord to the deep fryer. Recently it didn't stay connected very well. So the fryer wouldn't heat up. I also thought the cord was kind of short. It had to sit quite close to the wall. It ended up under a cupboard, where the lid would get stuck when it was opened. I'm not sure that it's a machine problem. Maybe more a kitchen design problem.

This is a keeper

This is the one that I kept because it meets the value for your money. This is an inexpensive fryer, at half the price of the competitors. It is larger than most with 4L oil that it can hold up. It also has a digital timer and a thermostat as well. The amount of power on this think is beastly, so you can preheat your oil very quickly. There is also an indicator light to tell you that it is ready to cook. You can fry plenty of fries and chicken wings at a single batch. It's a good size for a medium family that can eat a lot. It's very easy to clean, lots of removable parts that are dishwasher friendly. You lift the control panel out, and then remove the reservoir for the oil, which you can then empty and clean it. I don't think you can purchase a better fryer for the price. The results are crispy and they taste delicious. It doesn't have an oil drain, but would like to see a lower price model with this in the future. I would recommend this to friends.

Nice to have but wouldn't buy it again

We had one of those impulse days at the store when we decided to buy a deep fryer. We compared features and left with the Oster Professional Style Deep Fryer. I have worked in a restaurant for all my adult life and am pretty familiar with deep fryers. This one works for home use but don't plan on making a lot of food in it. We have done fries, but they aren't like coming from a restaurant. I usually use mine for fried chicken and for another recipe that is meat filled dough that is fried. It does take a but to warm up, but that's too be expected. And we usually buy the gallon of oil to use in it. I also let the oil cool and then using a funnel, pour the oil back into the jug to use again. I never use the time, I just estimate how long or go off of color. And I always cook at the hottest setting, so having temperature control doesn't really matter to me. Pros: The basket clicks in and is on a hinge which makes dropping the food into the oil easier, and you can let it hover on the top of the oil by holding the handle instead of dropping it all the way in. - Large basket to hold bigger food items. Cons: Cleaning. I'm sure all deep fryers are this way, but it's a pain to clean. Grease is everywhere and doesn't come off easily. Also, when cleaning it once, we noticed a filter in the top and we have never replaced it. Not sure if we should or if it's ok to leave it alone. It is pretty greasy. We don't use it often, maybe a few times a year. It's nice to have but we probably wouldn't buy one this big next time.

I just love my Oster Professional Style Deep fryer

We bought Oster Professional Style Deep fryer a couple of years ago and it is just great. The good things about it is of course you have a variety of temperatures you can set it on,decent length cord, removable basket that is a good size and is very easy to use. The only con's are it is big so it takes up a lot of space, requires a lot of oil and it also takes a good 10 minutes to heat up,but considering the size of it you really can't expect it to not require a lot of oil & take a decent amount of time to heat the oil up. With those being the only issues i wouldn't really call it a issue because its something I would rather deal with to have a bigger fryer so i could cook enough for the family in one fry session rather than having a smaller one & having to split something up into two cooking sections. With my experience with the Oster Professional Style Deep fryer i have found it to be a good product so i highly recommend it.

Good inexpensive deep fryer

3

I recieved this Oster deep fryer as a gift from someone and have used it four or five times so far. For an inexpensive unit it does pack a lot of features in. The timer function, closing lid and drop style basket are all extremely nice. Unfortunately there are some downsides as well. The lid is a mix of metal and plastic, and feels extremely cheap. If you aren't careful when you open the fryer the oil and moisture will drain down the back side of the unit. It is also extremely hard to clean due to the small crevaces and cracks the oil can get into. By filling the oil slightly lower I can avoid too much splashing and minimizing cleanup for later, but some foods splatter more than others. Overall I would recommend this unit, just be ready to do a lot of cleaning once the cooking is done.

Oster Professional Style Deep Fryer not so Professional

I bought the Oster Professional style deep fryer to replace an older deep fryer that had stopped heating up. This deep fryer takes a long time to heat up. At least 10-15 minutes to get to the hottest setting to cook fries. This deep fryer is much easier to clean than most others I've seen or owned. I have noticed lately though, that there is a large amount of oil underneath the deep fryer after I use it. I'm not sure if it's leaking or what's going on. I've started putting it on something when I use it to keep the mess to a minimum but I'd rather just have a deep fryer that I don't have to worry about the mess with. Overall, it cooks well, food doesn't burn, cooks evenly and doesn't take a long time to cook.

A great deep fryer with some annoyances

3

I received this as a gift for christmas last year. It was to replace my old smaller deep fryer as it couldn't fit that much food in it. Once I started using this, there was no going back. It can hold a lot more food than any of the smaller ones could. Meaning that you could deep fry some french fries and chicken tenders at the same time and still have a little room left. It's the type of deep fryer that uses a basket, so it's easy to use without being burned. It's basket is removable, so you won't have to pick the food out of the basket to cool down. There are couple things wrong with it though. It usually takes between 10-15 minutes for it to heat up, which is a long time for most deep fryers. It also requires a lot of oil to fill it up, as I pour 3 bottles in and it's still only fills it up to the bare minimum. The main annoyance that I have with it is something I didn't notice until I cleaned it once. Unless you put the lid back on precisely, it can pop open. Which can be annoying in the middle of cooking ot have that pop open and potentially splash grease in the area. But overall, it's a great deep fryer that I would suggest even with some minor annoyances.

Oster Professional Deep Fryer works well

3

I wanted a deep fryer for quite some time. I'm not sure why, exactly, but I just knew I wanted one. When my husband bought me the Oster Professional Deep Fryer I wasn't sure if it was what I really was looking for in the deep fryer area. I thought it was too big (it is kind of large), and would take up too much counter space (it may be large but it's kind of narrow enough to slide up against the wall on your counter without any issues) and so I almost asked him to return it. I actually waited a week or two before opening it up to test it out. And I like it a lot. I like how there is a timer, and you can easily toss in anything from fresh to frozen french fries, newly created appetizers, and much more. I haven't yet tried making donuts in there, but that might be next! I have decided to move it from the counter to the garage, so I can use it sparingly and not over-fry things, but at the same time it is accessible enough that I can take it out and fry up something for dinner if I want. I will say that one problem I have with it is that when you fry something? The whole house (upstairs, as well) smells like what you've fried for hours on end! It's a scent that is great when you're hungry - but that I could do without after eating dinner!

Great to fry food for a large crowd !

The Oster 4-Liter Professional Style Deep Fryer is great to cook with if you are trying to feed a large crowd of people because it can hold up to 1-1/2 pounds of food. It is very stylish, which is one of the reasons I bought it, lol! A few cons I have about it is the lid doesn't always stay shut. It sometimes pops open for no reason. And it takes up alot of space, so make sure you have room to store it. It cooks really well, has a timer, and you can adjust the temperature. It is cool-touch and has a removeable fry basket, which is the main reason I purchased a new deep fryer. I do suggest using liquid vegetable oil because the first time I used mine I used Crisco and I guess where it wasn't melted when I turned it on it wasn't touching all parts of the heating element and it started smoking and quit working. Turns out there is a reset button located on it, that I had to press, to get it to work again because it has an automatic shutoff if it gets to hot. I had actually thought it was broken, but everything was fine after hitting reset and using regular vegetable oil! So I am very thankful it had that feature or I probably would have burnt it up before I ever got to use it!
