In puerto Vallarta we arrived with a paid reservation with insurance. First they did not find us in their list and would not give us a car. They were surprised this upset me on a 23rd of december with a 4 hr drive ahead of me. Then they wanted to give us a car with unsafely tires, when they finally accepted it was their fault and not mine that we did not show up in their spread sheet they told us that the insurance we paid via travelocity was not valid for mexico. Again, they got upset when I got upset and threaten to not give us a car...we paid for a 2 day rental and the man at the reception told us to deliver it on the 3rd day, not wanting to get in trouble we delivered it as we had first planned which they did not like at all and kept us waiting until finally they decided that because I was upset again they would keep my voucher and charge us whatever they please. I asked for them to call the police but instead we got two thugs...this is when I say thanx american express. By the way, the owner was the one who threaten us with no car, and kept the voucher. I have her on tape which she also did not appreciate much in the end. Vehicle Selection old and not well maintained

Rip-Off Keep off. Run as fast as you can

I rented a minivan on Wed Nov 21, 2012 from the Orlando Florida location with a return date of Sun Nov 25, 2012. The entire experience was a nightmare. First the company advertises 4 minutes pickup time from the airport. Our wait was 37 minutes from the time we called to the time the driver arrived to pick us up and we had hungry, flight exhausted children traveling with us! I have to commend the driver who picked us up. He was apologetic and was really talkative and courteous. He was able to calm us down and restore our confidence. However, once we arrived at the rental location, we had to wait an additional 20 minutes from arrival to the time we picked up the vehicle. There were only 2 people a head of us and a single check-out clerk on such a busy holiday week! To make matters worse, I had ordered a Non-Smoke minivan and I was given a vehicle reeking with smoke smell. At first I ignored the smell probably because I had just recently recovered from the flu and the smell wasn't as strong to me. However, once we started driving on the highway with the windows up, the smoke smell was unbearable! I called the company back and requested an exchange but I was told that they were sold out due to the holiday weekend and all they could offer was for me to return the vehicle the next day of be downgraded to a smaller vehicle (which wasn't going to work for us as we had 3 car seats). Once we arrived at our final destination in Palm Bay, we let the windows down and could never use the vehicle for the rest of the day. We instead opted to using my sisters SUV for the rest of the day. The next day I drove back 1.5 hours to the rental location to get the car cleaned out. Upon arrival at 10am, I was told that the person who could clean the car was starting is shift at 3pm that afternoon and I could either wait for 5 hours or they could spray febreze on it. This is something I could have done by myself and could have saved me a 1.5 hour drive not counting gas, toll charges, and the emotional dilemma from leaving my family on Thanksgiving Day! It worked out ok because since I was in town, I ended up picking up some family members from the airport who were arriving at noon on that day. The febreze masked the smoke fairly well and made the drive back home a little bearable. Finally when I returned the vehicle to the rental location on Sunday, I had an incident at the parking lot. Pulling up on the tight curve to the drop off location, the vehicle rubbed against the parking lot's yellow traffic guides. There was no damage to the vehicle other than the previous damage which was already on that side of the vehicle and was clearly identified on my contract. However, the attendant insisted on filing what he referred to us a police report. At that point I started cleaning out the paint residue on the driver side sliding door to show the attendant that there was no damage other than the vehicle but paint residue from the pillar. So sitting and waiting for about 20 minutes for the police to arrive for the report to be filed, the attendant told me that since it wasn't major, the police were never called and that someone would call me the next day to discuss the repair options. However, they insisted on charging me the insurance deductible amount just in case they needed to repair the vehicle later. They charged me $500 deductible + $117 what they called claims filing fees for a total of $617. I insisted that I would save myself $117 by simply calling GEICO who would have an adjuster there within 15 minutes but they told me it was against their policy. They had to be the once to file the claim. At that point I had had enough and my flight departure time was getting closer. So we left the location and went to the airport with the hope that whoever was supposed to call me the next day would get the entire issue cleared and thrown out. Sometimes walking away from a bad situation helps. It is December 9th and no one has called me back yet. I am confident that they discovered there were no damages to the vehicle but decided to retain the $617 charges for their own profit. They never cared to call me back even though they had promised that someone would call me back and if any repairs were done they would furnish me photos and a repair cost statement. A $202 rental turned out to be $202 + $617 = $819! Talk about a rip-off! If you thought only airlines nickel and dime you, think again! Next time I'll rent from a major company where I'll be guaranteed good service and will not be ripped off like this.

Shady rental practices- beyond the norm for car rental companies

1

Do not rent from Payless or U Save, espcially if ever in Costa Rica. I declined addicional insurance, and while signing the contract, they hid the charges in abbreviations, and told me I was initialling to decline insurance (when in reality, I was initialling to accept it!). Also, they never explained the charges, after I repeatedly declined the insurance. Then when I contacted the company, they told me it did not matter what I said, because the contract was signed! Literally, the most underhanded and shady business practices possible. Again, DONT RENT FROM THEM!!

Do Not Sure U-Save Car Rental

1

On a recent trip to Myrtle Beach to see our daughter at college, we rented a car through U-Save, prompted by an email "advertisement" I received; car to be picked up at Myrtle Beach airport. Our flight from New York was delayed 3+ hours so we did not arrive in Myrtle Beach until almost midnight on Friday, October 14, 2011. When we finally did arrive at Myrtle Beach Airport, we went to pick up the car where we were greeted by a very friendly, attentive desk clerk. She advised us to do a "self check" of the car as all the support staff had gone home and she was on her own. My husband did inspect the car, but it was, dark, late and we were exhausted. Upon returning the vehicle on Sunday morning, October 16, 2011, we were informed by the parking lot attendant that a scratch was seen on the front, passenger side bumper. We are confident that scratch was not caused by us and informed the attendant of that. He said to tell the clerk when we go inside and have look up any past records to see if the previous driver of the car had reported the scratch. Of course, the clerk claimed no such scratch was ever reported, and that we were responsible for repairing the car in the amount of nearly $600.00. As we were disputing this claim with your desk clerk, the parking lot attendant came back inside, and we explained we were being charged for the scratch to which he replied "it was already there", but your clerk continued to charge our credit card. We asked to look at the car again to ascertain if it was a "fresh" scratch and not an old scratch, but was told it was already "in the back getting washed". We did not want to miss our flight to get back home, so the paperwork was filled out and we left, not happily! I believe U-Save has questionable practices and will NEVER be renting from them in the future. We are disputing their claim with our credit card company. It is unfortunate to have had such an experience with your company on our first time using you as we are frequent flyers to Myrtle Beach. I trust we can come to an amicable resolution of this unfortunate .

SCAMMERS and UNSAFE RENTAL CAR, BEWARE!!!

1

U-Save Car Rental in Puerto Vallarta gave me a car with a BALD rear passenger tire. Tire inspection is not on the list of things you do when checking out the car and I never thought they would do that. The tire went flat on the 2nd day. When I returned on the spare tire to get it replaced they insisted I pay 50% of a new tire price. I took pictures of the bald tire ... belts were exposed in places, take a look. U-save even agreed that the tire was bald but said we are only charging you 50% of a new tire, not the full 100%. Like that was good. I was shocked they didn't apologize for putting my family in an unsafe car and didn't try to correct things. They wouldn't provide me with another car unless I agreed to pay, so I ended my contract and left the car with 1/2 tank more gas than it had when I picked it up. The U-Save owner apparently also owns the U-Save and Century 21 real estate offices in Sayalita. I will never do business with them again or rent from U-Save anywhere.

Shady business practices, misleading price quotes, rude staff..

1

They post a low-ball price online in order to show up at the top of listings on travel sites, but when you pick up the car at the location, they will hit you with all kinds of surcharges. My bill was nearly double of what their reservation system printed out online at first. When I complained, the manager and the owner pretty much acted like thugs. Never again..

I was very sceptical about renting from U-Save at the Orlando airport because of the cheap prices and negative comments I read about them but was relieved at the service I received.  The staff was friendly and the car was much better than I expected.  It was clean and in very good condition.  I thought they were going to charge me for going over my 150 miles per day which they didn't.  And I paid exactly what they quoted me online.  The only negative I had was that the rental office was off airport property and about 10-15 minute ride on their shuttle.  I would use them again and would recommend this car rental to anyone who is budget conscious and is looking for quick, easy service.

The worst car rental company I have ever experianced

1

U-Save advertise one car and then supply you with something else. We booked a large 4WD Pathfinder and got an old Terrano. At over $100/day we expected a top model not an old banger. We had to refuse one of their offerings as it had bald back tyres. A very unprofessional outfit.
