Sominex makes me feel heavy and drowsy, but it usually works.
I've suffered from insomnia for as long as I can remember. I've tried multiple sleep aids in hopes to find relief. Compared to prescription-strength sleep-aids, Sominex is quite different as is to be expected. It usually makes me feel pretty drowsy, which does help me fall asleep. But I found that after I used it for about a week or two it lost some of its effectiveness. The little purple box comes with four sheets of foil packets including 4 pills per sheet. Only 1 pill is needed at a time, so this box will last you a little over 2 weeks if using it every night. The effect Sominex has on me reminds me of when I take a cold medicine like NyQuil. I just feel drowsy and heavy, and like I can't really do anything so I'm therefore forced to go to sleep (even if I'm not quite ready!). So that's one thing I like better about prescription sleep aids compared to Diphenhydramine sleep aids. I never know exactly when a sleep aid's effects will kick in, so when they do kick in in the middle of late-night homework or a favorite tv show, I like to be able to finish it before going to bed! So anyway for the most part, Sominex does it's job. It can lose it's effectiveness after a little while, but if using occasionally that shouldn't be a problem.
