We absolutely love our Big Green Egg! Using lump charcoal eliminates the 'fuel' taste that I find so frequently in propane bbq's. Steaks and all other items cooked on the egg have a delicious smokey flavor. The venting system makes finding the ideal temperature for either fast searing or slow cooking easy to achieve. Because the egg holds temperature so stable, I've even been able to cook batches of cookies. During the "great blackout" in San Diego a couple years ago, we were the hero's of the neighborhood for whipping up dessert for all the kids who were stressed out with the lack of power. The egg is heavy, so it's best to find a permanent place for it. Even in the portable metal nest that has rolling wheels, it's heavy to move. Assembly is definitely at least a two person job. The egg top and bottom come unassembled, and they are very heavy to lift into position. Takes a bit of manipulation to get the springs aligned perfectly, however, it's worth the time because once the assembly is done, you are good to go, and the ceramic holds up wonderfully. Cleaning is easy as you open the bottom vent and pull the ash out with the tool provided. All in all, this was the best cooking investment we've ever made.
